To be fair to Howard, stopping both of those would be miraculous. The first play he needed to step up out of the crease and he didnt. Thats on him. The 2nd one was just a good goal.

The kind of payer you make captain is the kind of player that has people want to follow him, not be forced to. None of us were in the locker room when Yzerman was named captain, but I am guessing that with the dynamic they had at the time and the players they had at the time that players wanted to lineup behind him and for the situation it worked This is not the situation now. Forcing the C on Larkin will be just that, putting a C on him, it wont make him the the leader. You cant force things like this, you need to let him happen organically. Do you really think that players like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall etc. are going to look at Larkin as their "leader"? Maybe down the road, but not anytime soon. I feel you are confusing "skill set" with "leadership". Being the most skilled player doesnt mean you should be the leader (that would be Datsyuk anyways).

You've made so many boneheaded plays (posts) that even when you make a good play (post) it goes unnoticed, and everyone on LGW are just waiting for you to do (say) anything so they can chew you up... Anyway, I agree with 100% here. Anyone that thinks Jurco has been given a fair shot since his rookie campaign when he was a staple on that third line, clearly haven't been paying attention. The kid has been in and out of the lineup more than anyone, and if he doesn't produce in one game he's out or bumped to the forth line. He's been on a shorter leash than any player on the team, when even when not producing provides much more than many on the team. Jurco is legit, and it's only a matter of time before he breaks into the league as a top 6 winger. This should be a huge confidence boost for him and he definitely needed it. Keep it going kid!

The team has yet to play as good as they can (although they've been slowly improving), and still managed to hold on to 3rd in the division. Larkin does make this team better yes, but he also isn't our best player. Will he be in time? Very likely. But not yet. Also, no one player is gonna have a team go from playoffs to the basement. This isn't basketball. Don't get me wrong. I am all for Larkin being our next captain. But it is a roll he has to grow into and have the touch passed to him when the time is right. That time will come down the road.

If we're going to ignore rolls that certain players are excellent at and just give Jurco their job then I think Jurco should be the goalie. Actually, f*** that. He can be BOTH goalies. I just played the game!!!!!!

Jurco is still on the roster even though he's on a conditioning stint. If Ferraro is better they have to take him off of IR. If he's coming off of IR, he's gotta go somewhere...

You are making my point for me. The Red Wings are not far away from a decade of nothing happening. I know Zetterberg is NOT the reason the Red Wings don't come out looking like the same team every game, but the fact is that they've been an inconsistent team for a while now. I think Larkin represents that same type of glimmer that Yzerman represented. He's the face of the franchise now, and the player that stabilizes the team. We are talking about Larkin and excited to see Larkin EVERY single game. We know the Wings can win any game because of him. That's the kind of player you make captain.
