    Mantha

Mantha is currently 3rd in scoring for the AHL playoffs. 8 points in 7 games. 4 goals and 4 assists. This also makes 27 goals in 77 games at all levels.

I couldn't agree more marcaractac. Not going to happen but a dream roster would be something like... Athanasiou - Stamkos - Mantha Abdelkader - Larkin - Okposo Nyquist - Zetterberg - Jurco Sheahan - Glendening - Helm Frk - Callahan DeKeyser - Trouba Smith - Green Kronwall - Marchenko Sproul Mrazek UFA

Only thing I'd change here is to let Miller walk, keep Helm, and give Jurco a full time spot. Of course I think Okposo would be a much better fit than Radulov as well. But if we got Stammer I'd be able to stomach Radulov as a Wing. I'd also hope to keep Goose over Tatar, but one of them likely has to go at this point.

Okay. Hello. There are two arguments being made here: 1. Nyquist is not (currently) a good secondary scorer. 2. Neither were other good players in their first few years, so based on the talent we've seen from Nyquist - both in regular seasons past and in the IIHF World Championships - maybe we should give him some time. It's possible for one brain to entertain both of those ideas at the same time and find them both compelling. It's also possible to discuss those ideas without being sensationalist and condescending. Let's carry that mindset with us as we turn the discussion back to the thread topic, okay?

I like that roster. However I'd like to see some combination of Nyquist/Jurco/D prospect(s)/pick traded for a top defenseman and add a physical 4th liner whether that's from the Griffins or outside. Kinda like this: Tatar-Stamkos-Mantha Radulov-Larkin-Athanasiou Zetterberg-Sheahan-Abdelkader Miller-Glendening- *Physical 4th line acquisition Dekeyser- *#1 defenseman (I'm hoping Trouba) Green-Smith Kronwall-Marchenko/Sproul Mrazek Enroth

Hopefully Tampa wins. Then Tampa loses to Dallas (who I hope beats St. Louis).

There are a few flaws in your argument though. 1. Datsyuk was a primary scorer while Nyquist was a secondary scorer. So comparatively Datsyuk was just as bad (if not worse than Nyquist). 2. Nyquist's quality of teammates are worse than Datsyuk (who primarily played with Brett Hull and Henrik Zetterberg). Datsyuk also averaged about 3+ minutes more ice time in his 2nd seasons and beyond in the playoffs 3. Datsyuk's first good playoff year was after his first 41 playoff games. Nyquist has only played 35 playoff games. And then you're using hindsight bias to confirm that Datsyuk figured it out. Even though it took him a looooong time to figure it out. And at the time we were all saying exactly what we are saying of Nyquist. The narrative then for about 4 years in a row was "Pavel Datsyuk is not cut out for the playoffs". Easier to look back in hindsight tho.. But you aren't open to the idea that Nyquist might be a late bloomer as well? I mean sure he might not pan out... maybe Nyquist will never figure it out. But seeing as how Datsyuk took 41 games to figure out, and knowing Nyquist has played about 35 games so far, I think we can at least give Nyquist another 6+ games to see if he finds his mojo. But hey I'm open to the idea of trading Nyquist. Especially if it means getting someone who can score in the playoffs (Kyle Okoposo)

One thing that I think is super important for both Houda, and whoever we sign to coach the offense, is a knowledge and embrace of how modern analytics can/should inform coaching. I don't know where any of the candidates stand on the topic though.

I met him and Stevie Y. at a Little Caesars opening near my home in '89 (?). I said "Hello, Mr. Yzerman. Hi, Doug."

So I did some digging. Gustav Nyquist 35 playoff games played : 4 goals 4 assists = 8 points. Considered a secondary scorer Pavel Datsyuk in his first 37 playoff games played : 3 goals 9 assists = 12 points. Considered a primary scorer by his second season. Opinions? My opinion is that I know Datsyuk was heavily criticized in his first 4 NHL seasons because of his poor playoff performance. I'm starting to think it's a similar situation with Gus. Pav was a late bloomer. Gus might be as well.

    Fixing this mess....

Bertuzzi was never a locker room cancer or a coaches nightmare, at least not that I'm aware of. Different scenario.

Doug Houda hired as an assistant coach

I can't wait. Apparently, the new rule is an all-bald coaching staff? Semi-hairless.... OK, then

Doug Houda hired as an assistant coach

I'm assuming he's taking over the defense and penalty kill? Now we need to go after Todd Richards or Adam Oates to run the forwards and power-play...

Datsyuk WANTED Guys like Abby or Helm on his Wing. And at his age, he needs help with the dirty work. Do not understand why people still ***** about his linemates when it's what he wanted.

They are putting out a near Drew and Mike quality show for the last few years. Lead by Mike Wolters the former producer of the famous WRIF Drew and Mike show http://detroitcast.com/ Mornings with the Drew and Mike show were worth waking up for... then the dreaded END came. Suddenly, suddenly and all of a sudden mornings were sad (screw dave and chuck). With the birth of The Detroit Cast the clouds started to thin and eventually the sun once again began to shine. Mornings were good again. But now... The Actual Drew and Mike are back together again PLUS The DetroitCast is better then ever... Donald Trump could quite possibly be President , Steve Yzerman could quite possibly be coming home to GM us back to the Glory Days... what else could happen??? Seriously Drew and Mike.. Check them out! TDC, check them out!!! Peace

A lot of NHL players can score 20 goals if you put them in the right situation. The question is what else can they do? With Pulk, the answer is not much.

    Mantha

People mention Larkin and he hit the wall in the second half of the season Fact is it will take time for Mantha and Larkin to learn the highest level and pace themselves
