Damn right. This isn't the "NHL welfare & good wishes to everyone" forum. "Every ill on your opponent is a gain upon you." -Sun Tzu

Great description of Homer and the others. You're spot on. I laughed at the Murphy's glasses reference. What about a ring of honor in the new arena to recognize that second tier of significant Wings, kind of like what Montreal has? It would be a good way to recognize the Grind Line, Shanny, Holmstrom, Redmond, etc. without cheapening the jersey retirement.

This has been discussed ad nauseum. It's far easier to visit family within the same country than internationally. Plus, he will actually be nearby frequently because of the teams he will play. It's not that hard to grasp, people.

I see the yes,I'm finally with a team that will love me in his eyes

Lol at Z & Pav and not Feds/Osgood. Osgood owns most the Red Wings playoff records, plus 400 wins. feds the best player on the team throughout the 90's and 3 Cup era. 91 and 30 absolutely. Especially if you're even considering 13 & 40.

This year vs last year: a poll

Let's try and remember that the original Euro twins took time to have a major impact in the playoffs as well. Zetterberg wasn't an impact player in the playoffs until 05-06 (3rd season), Datsyuk 07 (6th season). There's definitely a learning curve in the playoffs.

To me it would seem that he knew this team wasn't going anywhere and he knew he was still young enough to have a chance to play with his countrymen, so that's probably the reason why he went back. And to me, I'm perfectly fine with that.

This year vs last year: a poll

Probably not a bad idea, but my gut tells me that Zetterberg wouldn't go for it. Pro athletes (especially one's wearing the C) do not want to be coddled.

No you didnt, because no sane person would choose to drive 30 hours each direction every week or so when flying is easier, faster, safer, and depending on the price of gas in russia, cheaper. The only reason you described it as a 30 hour trip was to make Pavel look like an *******, which he isn't.

    #91 - No #13 - No #40 - Probably Not #30 - No

I vaguely remember that article. Thanks for digging it up.

In 1989, Sports Illustrated thought differently, as did the rest of the NHL. http://www.si.com/vault/1989/03/20/119567/no-3-with-a-bullet-motowns-steve-yzerman-the-nhls-third-brightest-star-could-climb-even-higher-on-the-charts

Probably. But the fact is that Messier won Cups and was in the spotlight, while Yzerman was a star player on a bad team for most of the 80's.

A little more research and we can find out which restaurant in Russia he frequently visits.

they do exist, the main problem is refueling. and it's only a 2hr45min flight away from St. Petersburg. I think you left out the time change when moving from different time zones

Datsyuk left in the middle of his contract. If you're using Sergei leaving to Anaheim as a free agent to go to Anaheim as a reason to not have his jersey retired, you should not be saying datsyuk will have his retired. He bolted to Russia without playing out his contract.

There isnt a flight in the world that takes 30 hours. Lol

In hockey, I believe this is a very flawed argument. You can say this about pretty much everyone. Without Fedorov/Lidstrom, Yzerman likely doesn't win a cup, without Yzerman/Fedorov & then Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Osgood, Lidstrom doesnt win a cup. No NHL player can win a cup by themselves. As far as Zetterberg goes, in 2008 the guy did win the Conn Smythe, and I believe set some Red Wings records. Not sure what else you could have asked of him in that run.

<3 ya Dats. Been watching his highlights the past couple of days actually. Been pretty down about it - even though thought I was over it.

WingedWheel, it seems we don't agree on much, but I agree with you here 100%. Great post! I also agree that Fowler is massively overrated. I would take him on this team, but not at the price it would likely cost. Like I've said before, if we're over paying for a defenseman, it needs to be a true number one or at least one that has the potential to be a true number one...
