It is too bad they couldn't use Black Knights. We could've had years worth of Monty Python jokes (T'is but a scratch!). Golden Knights doesn't ring right to me. but I guess it's not so bad. And yes, Hockeymom, I'm sure there'll be a hockey themed porn tribute being made sometime soon.

    Kyle Quincey

Quincey scored a beauty last night.. Unbelievable ability to find the puck in his skates, kick it from one foot to the other, up to his stick for the wide open net. May be the nicest goal I've ever seen him score... Check it out... https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.youtube.com/embed/hVkDBNgs59c&ved=0ahUKEwiz6dDkvr3QAhUs6IMKHSVLCOMQo7QBCBowAA&usg=AFQjCNEnsU_r6unUtBanGLduhhAYpOkoXw

3 choices are Silver Knights, Golden Knights or Desert Knights I think. And on 2 of them I have the same question, why? judging by the logo, I'm assuming Golden Knights?

This fits if you sing it to that tubthumping song: and then we dump da puck and then we chase da puck we sing the songs that remind me of the good times... You all can judge whether the "I get knocked down, but I get up again" chorus is appropriate. I guess we'll see as season goes on.

How can so many things be bad?

I do not claim to be a hockey expert, so I would invite those that know more about it than me to correct me if I am wrong. Here are my impressions of the Red Wings: 1) It should come as no surprise that the Wings can't score. When they get the puck, if they manage to clear the D zone, they do NOT drive to the net or take a shot, they dump the puck to the corner and surrender possession about 75% of the time. They went from the best puck possession team to the worst puck possession team. I have to believe they are coached to do so, because that is what they consistently do. 2) They have NO passing game whatsoever. Cannot make two clean passes in a row, most possessions are short lived and end up with a botched pass and possession to the opponent. A lot of blind passes to no one in particular which end up on the opponent's stick, often in front of our goalie. 3) No speed or quickness. A few years ago the team did not have speed. Now they have some players with real speed but they don't play with speed. When we get the puck we are immediately pressured by the opponent with no room to maneuver. When the opponent gets the puck they sail into our end unimpeded. 4) Cannot win puck battles on the boards. 5) The Wings give the opponents more space than any other team, letting them maneuver or pass at will. 6) Consistently melt down late in the game. This is a carryover from the last few years under Babcock. Cannot put an opponent away in a close game. 7) We probably have the two best goalies in the game, who are getting no support whatsoever from the defense or offense. 8) The power play is inept, to the point the wings should decline any penalty if that were possible and forget the power play. It only results in embarrassing short-handed chances for the other team. I can accept the fact that due to making the playoffs for 25 years in a row we are not getting the upper level draft picks, but I no not think the player talent is as bad as their performance indicates. (However, I do believe you are only as good as you play) Either the team is grossly underperforming or they have the most mediocre talent or lack of talent in the league. I believe the team is grossly underperforming and the blame has to fall on the coaching staff. It is possible that they will gradually get their act together and have a strong finish.(Pittsburg started out pretty bad last year if I remember right), but now I am starting to think that is just wishful thinking. Let me know what you think. Joe S

I feel like once they weren't able to go with Knights or Black Knights, they should have went in another direction. Las Vegas Golden Knights is quite a mouthful.

I like the name the Knights, but as someone from London, On I'm glad they weren't allowed to use it because the London OHL team owns the naming rights in Canada. Adding a descriptor makes it less cool, but c'est la vie. And, yes, that's a cool logo. Took me a minute to notice the V in there, haha.

tonight 9:00 pm ET yeah, that's most likely, the helmet reminded me of some Roman soldier or something related to the Ceasar's Palace, since you know, it's Vegas

Everything you say is 100% true, however that doesn't explain anything from OP's post. We can't pass, we can't win a puck battle, we can't skate the puck through the neutral zone. These are things our team should be able to do even though we don't have superstar level talent anymore.

I think the worst part is that it's see-through. You can see in the photo with Abby and Larkin that it looks better on Larkin, who's wearing a black shirt underneath, rather than Abby with the red shirt. Will look bad if you can see equipment. Without another colour underneath, it doesn't look that bad. For instance, I noticed it looks a little better here: P.S. I actually think the Leafs centennial jerseys are pretty ugly.

    The MANtha watch.....

Come on....we're talking Nestresil, Frk, and Pulkkinen. Two of which were waived by the teams that picked them up. They had zero value. Mantha is in a completely different class and is a completely different situation. This is what I mean when I talk about hyperbole.

It's even worse side by side. Leafs pic looks epic, like it's a movie poster and they are about to go into battle in the fierce arctic. Then there's the Abby/Larkin "Let's take an photo for grandma to see your new sweaters she got you for Christmas" photo with the classic forced smiles.

How can so many things be bad?

How can so many things be bad? A great question, but the answer is ultimately simple. Years and years of a failed (or non existent) strategy by management. No vision, no willingness to take risks, no ability to make deals, no accountability, no plan for young player development... coupled with endless excuses on why nothing else can be done and to expect mediocrity. You reap what you sow and in this case we have sown nothing. The buck stops nowhere. The playoff streak will end this year and with that little bandaid ripped off, perhaps ownership will finally have the smarts to dump Blashill and Holland and then pick up the mess they have left us.

    Be honest..

Here is my question though, who did we not get in UFA that was "elite" that we were not able to sign because of those deals? Who was "maximum worth" in UFA that we did not get because of cap issues? David Backes? Milan Lucic? Matt Niskanen? Paul Stasny? We did make a pitch for Matt Niskanen, but "cap issues" were not why we didn't land him. Sometimes players just want to play somewhere else (ie. Suter). I am not saying those deals are not hurting us at all, but I haven't seen a specific circumstance where the correct narrative was "Oh shoot, we could have signed player X if we had the cap room" unless player X was another mid level player which would be no different then what we have been doing. The only thing these mid level players have done is caused us to lose Nestrasil and Pulkkinen. If you want to make the argument that they are taking spots from guys like Mantha, Frk etc. sure I see that, but those guys are not elite at this point, and that is not our biggest problem. The one time in years that an elite player was about to become available in UFA (Stamkos) Holland made sure there was space. Stamkos didn't stay in TB because we couldn't afford him due to the cap. In 2016 UFA has become an avenue for mid level guys to be overpaid in either total dollars or term (ie. Niesen). Elite talent just doesn't hit free agency anymore for whatever reason. Have these contracts hurt us in regards to trades? I dont think so. If Holland had an opportunity to get a guy like Trouba for a reasonable return (ie. not Larkin), he would not have a hard time shedding salary. You can trade a guy like Tatar or Nyquist for picks if you want. Our issues are what I stated earlier, our elite/high end talent regressed before our kids were able to step in and replace them. Its simple. And yes, not drafting top 5 does make it harder to land franchise players. Again, please do not misinterpret this as me saying that all the contracts given to mid range players are great or not an issue at all. What I am saying is they are not the reason we are not elite right now. In 4 years from now when players like Larkin or Mantha are due for their next contract, that is when these contracts COULD be an issue.

    Be honest..

It may take 5 years if you get your picks perfect, but when you get a couple wrong it takes ALOT longer, and that's if you ever get it right. Chicago made the playoffs 1 time in 11 years between 1997 and 2008 LA didnt make the playoffs for 7 years.between 2002 and 2009 Pittsburgh didn't make the playoffs for 5 years, their re-build was actually done fairly quickly but lets not forget they got lucky with Crosby as that was the year where it had nothing to do with standings. but rather a random lottery where every team had a 1/30 chance to land him. Lets not forget, these are the best 3 examples. Lets look at some other team that have done this and not had the same success with the "top 5 picks guarantee everything to change" philosophy: Columbus Blue Jackets - Came into the league in 2001, missed the playoffs 13 times, made the playoffs twice and did nothing. All those high picks did nothing for them. But hey, they got Nash. Atlanta/Winnipeg - Came into the league in 2000, missed the playoffs 14 times, made the playoffs twice and did nothing. All those high picks did nothing for them. But hey, they got Heatley/Kovie/Kari Lehtonen Carolina Hurricanes - Since their Cup, they have made the playoffs 1 time, missed the playoffs 9 times. Still waiting on their franchise player that is going to lead them to a cup. I wont even go into the Oilers pre McDavid, its just too easy. I could do more teams, but what's the point. I hope you see what I am getting at. Sure drafting high gives you a higher probability of finding a franchise player, nobody would deny that. But you are making it sound like re-building is some easy task that will always workout buy constantly bringing up the 3 outliers. Re-building usually fails and leaves a large percentage of the teams out of the race for years, some times up to or over a decade. Do you really want this? Do you want the Wings to become the Lions? I would prefer the Wings trade away/dump some vets (E, Howard, Ott, Miller) play a combo of kids/vets but put more of the focus on the kids. I don't want to see every decent player older then 25 gone and traded for picks. It's not like players like Tatar/Nyquist are going to get you top 5 picks anyways.
