    Keith Petruzzelli

Red Wings Got A Special Goalie In Petruzzelli Forget Mrazek and Howard. This kid could be the future of this team in net, and our best pick of the 2017 draft. He was ranked as the #1 NA goalie midway through last season, ending the season at #2. Red Line Report had him ranked as the 33rd best player in the entire draft. He also won the Dave Peterson award for best USA goalie this past season. At development camp he allowed 0 goals during the lone scrimmage and stopped every single shootout attempt as well. He will play on a very good Quinnipiac University team this year. Looking like we got our very own Ben Bishop

I think a trade after arbitration is doable

This isn't directed at solely you by any stretch, but is this going to be a thing now? Are we going to pretend like things such as character and leadership are worthless? I agree that a team needs to find a balance between skill, character, style, and chemistry but to act like character is a joke and that Holland is an idiot for valuing it is just wrong. I agree with the notion that if you have all character and no skill your team will get killed, but I feel this is just another instance of fans who are upset with Holland finding anything to rip him for. If you just want to rip Holland, he has made a ton of mistakes, its not hard.

Letting Filppula and Hudler walk for nothing didn't kill us, but it would have been nice to get something for them. It's a lot harder to do that though when your team is still competing in the playoffs every year. It is and should be viewed as a very different situation now though. To let Tatar walk for nothing as a middling team would be a huge mistake. Say what you will about Tatar, but he does have value, and a lot of teams would likely be interested, to give their top 6 a boost. If it goes to arbitration and he receives the one year contract, and we're unable to get him signed at some point this season (for less than he's asking), we need to aggressively shop him at or before the trade deadline. A lot of players have been overpaid by $0.5-1M, and you can afford to do that with a few players, but not every player. It's unfortunate that all the role players are the ones that seem to have been overpaid, but just because they have been overpaid, doesn't necessarily mean we should be willing to do the same with every other player now. I hope Holland doesn't budge on his current price, and Tatar forces his hand to trade him in a package for a top pair defenseman.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Tatar is asking for $5.3M and the Red Wings are offering $4.1M... Not sure what kind of term was attached to that offer... If true, I don't blame Tatar for not accepting, regardless of term. He shouldn't be asked to sign for over a million less than Nielsen, and less than Abdelkader and Ericsson among others. I don't think Tatar's ask is astronomically high, but I'd still prefer a sign and trade. Or sign Tatar long term and trade Nyquist. Something needs to be done to shake things up with this team...

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Holland offered that, Tatar said no. Not much you can do when the player either wants to be paid big money, or is going to walk. I think Holland should stand pat, and hope Tatar signs a deal like you stated at the last minute. If he does't, so be it. Trade him.

Maybe he is, but I'd be surprised. Of course Holland has the team's cap so screwed up he couldn't take Tavares even if Snow would do that.

Yeah, it's hard not to love this pick. I don't think there's any question that he was our best value pick (potential vs where he was selected) and quite possibly one of the best value picks in the entire draft. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head would be, the Kings taking Vilardi at 11... Now THAT was a steal...

Holland can't offer him that much without making another move, which he won't because of all the bloated deals he handed out. If Tatar really only wants $5.3, it should be a no brainer to sign him. Of course, if that's the arbitration offer Holland is throwing out, it's probably lower than what he offered as the contract, at least I would hope.

I don't thats kind of what I was getting at. I dident really explain myself that well.

He did protect the best goalie but not the most healthy one.

Well they will be battling each other for ice time this season. Don't think either has the starters job locked up right now. Maybe after training camp. If Mrazek really does have a more mature attitude and is willing to do what it takes, should be a good battle between them! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Agreed. This I can't remember, being there gives you a unique perspective but things like an offside can be so easily missed when you eyes wander (ie. a tussle is going on away from the puck) and with no replay you won't even notice it.

I recall this too watching it. Just came out flat at home for a Finals Game 7. Allowed two goals and couldn't get them back in time. That was a soul crusher, but the series never should have gone that long. Up 2-0 heading back to Pittsburgh, should have got at least one, then have three games to finish em off. Wasnt the Pens first goal badly offside though in Game 7? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree that if an elite player is coming to this team under Holland it will be through the draft. My concern is paying Tatar 5-6 million for 7 years. That's a lot of term and money for a player that I don't think moves the needle. And with the current state of the team, I'm not too concerned about moving the needle anyway. So I'm all for trading Tatar, getting some assets, and signing Vanek cheap to replace him. If Vanek is worse or totally flops, who cares, we're in a rebuild anyway... and it's better to have short cheap contracts in order to remain flexible in a rebuild. If this team was competitive right now I'd be hollering to get Tatar locked in for the next 7 years, because I don't want to see another Fil/Weiss situtation, but this team isn't competitive right now.

I think you're missing my point. Whether Weiss scores 5 pts with us his first season or 100, Filppula's value as a player doesn't change. I'm not trying to get bogged down in whether Filppula or Hudler coming or going was a mistake or not. I'm trying to illustrate how non-crucial these players are. When Fil left and Weiss flopped did it kill us? No. When Hudler left and Brunner turned out to be a dud did it kill us? No. When Tatar leaves and we bring in Jarome Iginla, who flops, to replace him will it kills us? It doesn't matter because we're not a playoff team anymore. Were talking about replacing Kozlov, not Fedorov. This team will be fine with or without another Kozlov. Instead we should be focused on finding a Fedorov instead of paying and pleasing the Kozlovs of the world.

Thank you for giving me their draft history lol. With this ridiculous logic you don't trade Zach Bogosian (3rd overall in the 2008 draft) for Johnny Gaudreau (104th overall 2011 draft). You really don't understand the value of an expiring contract do you? With this, and all your kicking and screaming about Smith at the deadline, it makes sense.

Makes sense......they most likely want the kid to actually play rather then sit on the bench in the AHL.

Yeah, I'll never actively root against the Red Wings, and I'm not even going to say that I expect them to bottom out, but in such a top heavy draft, it wouldn't be the worst thing getting one of Dahlin, Svechnikov or Tkachuk in next year's draft. Dahlin is already being compared to Karlsson, the way he can skate and dictate play. We don't really need any more wingers, but it would be cool to have the Svech bros together. Svechnikov could be the most skilled of the three, and has the potential to be a Tarasenko type player. If Tkachuk is as good as his brother Matthew and dad Keith, he could be a great add as well. Best case scenario (outside of winning the Cup...), all of the young guys take a huge step forward, we finish just outside the playoffs and pull a Flyers of this past season, jumping way up into the top 3 of the draft lottery.

That was my vote. Not only did we lose first round to a low seed, but it was the sweep that made it shocking.

Except Yzerman has proven already that he's a great GM and can make some really good moves. Sakic hasn't. Gretzky never was a good coach. There's no comparisons here.
