Dahlin isn't "slipping away". Why would we get the 10th overall pick? We're currently sitting in 8th (from the bottom), so that would mean you fully expect 2 teams ahead of us in the standings to pick 1,2 or 3 in the draft... You think a team with worse odds than us can win the lottery, but we can't? Pretty pessimistic mind set isn't it? It's not going to take "incredible luck". Literally every year a team jumps ahead of a team with better odds. Whoever finished last place in the standings, there's actually a higher probability that they don't win the draft lottery than they do. They only have an 18% chance to pick first overall. That means there's an 82% chance that they don't. We currently have a 5.8% chance to land Dahlin. No, they're not great odds, but give me those odds in the Power Ball or Mega Millions and I'd like my chances. We also have an 18.3% chance of getting a top 3 pick. Slightly better odds than the worst team in the league has at Dahlin... We dropped back two spots last year. The chance of that happening again are likely slim. I like our chances of moving up this year. Maybe we luck out and get Dahlin, or maybe we get number 2 or 3. Either way, I think we're going to get a very good player in this year's draft. You also have to consider the fact that we're going to (hopefully) sell off some pieces by tomorrow. That could potentially drop us down another couple spots in the standings, which would *ever so slightly* improve our lottery odds. We also have a very difficult schedule down the stretch, which could bode well for us dropping a few extra points. We have NYR, STL, WPG, MIN, BOS, VGK, CBJ, SJS, LAK, ANA, COL, PHI, WSH, TOR, MTL, PIT, BUF, OTT, CBJ, MTL, NYI. Of those 21 games, we have 3 back-to-backs, 7 at home, 14 on the road, and only 5 of them are against teams with no chance of the playoffs (possibly 7, if CBJ and NYI are out by April). I've disagreed with a lot of Holland's moves over the years. Mainly free agent signings and trades, and a couple draft picks along the way, but one thing I do agree with him on, is keeping the winning culture. I'm glad we're not a team that is going full tank mode. I like that we're still remaining somewhat competitive on a nightly basis. I don't want us to tear it all down and trade everyone. I do hope he trades a few players by tomorrow though. When you're in our position, UFA's must go, and if teams are calling on players under contract, you still have to listen to every offer out there... Best case (somewhat likely) scenario, we trade 2-3 players by tomorrow's deadline, fall another spot or two in the standings and win the lottery with a top three (hopefully number one) spot in the draft. -

Man, the Bruins f***ed up royally on this one... Nash is massively overrated. He was great, 5-10 years ago, now he's just a name. They could have had Tatar or Nyquist for half the price they paid for Nash... Nash - 60 - 18 - 10 - 28 (GP - G - A - PTS) - 33 years old - $3.9M (50% retained) - Pending UFA Tatar - 61 - 16 - 11 - 27 - 27 years old - $5.3M - 3 more years Nyquist - 61 - 16 - 13 - 29 - 28 years old - $4.75M - 1 more year Maybe they didn't want the players with term, but they shouldn't have any cap issues next season... The Bruins may have gotten Nash at half price, but they also now have 50% of Matt Beleskey's contract ($1.9M) for another two years... for an AHL player... Boston also gave up Ryan Spooner, who is younger, cheaper and BETTER than Nash... Spooner - 39 - 9 - 16 - 25 - 26 years old - $2.825M - Pending RFA ... AND a 2018 1st round pick, 2019 7th round pick, and a mediocre defense prospect, Lindgren... What the f*** is Sweeney thinking? Holland better be taking notes... Tatar ? Nyquist should easily get a 1st plus at this rate... Of course they won't, but I wouldn't sell them for anything less after seeing this... -

Don't worry. Things will pick up after the TDL when everyone chimes in about how much Holland sucks because they didn't get what they wanted. Then they'll disappear until July 1st and sign in just to whine and then leave again. -

Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks
chaps80 and one other reacted to kickazz for a post in a topic
I liked Jimmy's performance better than Mrazek's in the last 1.5 years or so. Felt like he was the better overall goalie. But I have no attachments to Jimmy Howard. If he's traded for a future draft pick then by all means do it. The only attachment I've created with the team are guys like Steve Yzerman, Sergei Fedorov, Henrik Zetterberg and to a lesser extent Pavel Datsyuk (he kind of bailed on us so I'm not a fan of that aspect). And it's not because they're amazing hockey players, it's because I appreciate the joy they brought for my community. (I'm a Michigander). They were role models. -

Am I alone in thinking that Ken Holland is getting passed over or hung up on? Plus all these lottery teams are getting a s*** ton of draft picks! MTL now has 4 2nd round picks! There goes all our good choices! -

I hope all of Green, Tatar, Nyquist, Glenny and maybe Helm are scratches tonight for "precautionary" reasons! -
1 pointIt’d be awesome to get him but OEL would definitely cost at least one of the young guns and one, if not both, first rounders and more. I think RNH would cost too much too. Great players, but I’d much rather get them through free agency (also most likely won’t happen).

Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks
chaps80 reacted to PavelValerievichDatsyuk for a post in a topic
Sure, for a Lundquist or a Quick, but Mrazek hadn't established himself as the franchise goalie without doubt. -
1 pointI can respect that. Some seem to think he's vital to this team's success though, including Holland. He's had a lot of chances, help, coddling, and benefit of the doubt in his career. Sure, he held it down when the team was good, but once the team dropped, he dropped. Been off and on since. Elliott is Howard 2.0. Exact same type of goalie. He'll hold it down for ya, but he won't take you where you need to go. As a goalie myself growing up, I tend to pay a lot more attention to that aspect of the game. One of my faves was Vanbiesbrouck, and he wasn't one of the best, or ever a Red Wing. Osgood, Vernon, Hasek..all time faves because of what they accomplished in Detroit. We all have favourite players for different reasons. Yzerman and Zetterberg are obv faves as well, but guys like Probert and McCarty too. Datsyuk bailing changed my opinion of him too. It's one season and the team is on hook for the money, just play it out, retire looking good. I don't believe Holland was as aggressive as he could have been to move Howard. He wouldn't retain any salary in the deal, acting like he had some value at the time. Just like the NYI/Philly thing. He still thinks Howard is worth a high draft pick and that's why teams will balk at him.

1 pointHere's what Khan had to say about it... "Mike Green could end up missing the final six games before the trade deadline due to injury. Maybe it won't damage his trade value, but it certainly doesn't help. It is not considered serious. Green has participated in two full practices since then, including Friday. But it could give pause to potential suitors, including the Lightning."

We are all getting hopeful for Monday, but I have a feeling this will be Holland and his staff come 3PM -
1 pointNever. Wings don't bring back Holland, next year fans all complain that the new guy is worse while claiming to have supported Holland all along. Out of spite, Chris sells the team to Vince McMahon, who makes them the cornerstone of the new XHL. Just like regular hockey, but with teams occasionally jumping onto the ice during a rival team's game and delivering a few chair shots when the refs are distracted.
