Saying that you were right about Hudler not leading our team, would be like me saying now that Nyquist will never win a Hart and DD will never win a Norris, not exactly a "bold prediction". Agreed @krsmith17 had Franzen never suffered all those concussions, I have no doubt that he would still be a great player.

For the record, I would like to see Osgood go in, but here are the points against him. - No major individual awards - Was not consistently a top goalie in the league year after year, very up and down - Had a powerhouse in front of him - Eyeball test showed that he was good, but never appeared to be elite. Nobody would watch Chris Osgood play and say "damn, this guy may be one of the best in the world". With all that being said, IMO hockey is about performance, and at the end of the day Osgood performed and because of this he should be in the HHOF and he should have his number retired.

    Our draft position

https://www.nhl.com/standings/2017/league Can't pass the Islanders, as they'd win the ROW tiebreaker no matter what. The Blackhawks won tonight, so now we can't pass them either, because they'd win the ROW tiebreaker no matter what. If the Oilers get two more points, we won't be able to pass them, because they'd win the ROW tiebreaker no matter what. So, we can finish 29th / 3rd-worst, 28th / 4th-worst, 27th / 5th-worst, 26th / 6th-worst (our current position), or 25th / 7th-worst (the Oilers' current position). (This, of course, doesn't factor in the potential 1-3-position slide in the final lottery order.) We're currently three points away from the 29th / 3rd-worst Habs. They have two games left: one against us and one against the Leafs. We're currently three points away from the 28th / 4th-worst Coyotes. They have two games left: Canucks and Ducks. We're currently two points away from the 27th / 5th-worst Canucks, and they'd win the ROW tiebreaker no matter what. They have two games left: Coyotes and Oilers. Should be an interesting finish.

Yeah. I've heard this said before so I looked into it once. There's certainly a perception there, and I've read articles on it from some knowledgeable writers, but mathematically, its not true. Goalies make up approximately 9% of NHL players. There are 271 skaters in the Hall, 35 of whom are goalies. That's 13%. Statistically, you're more likely to get in as a goalie, believe it or not. I think the perception comes more from the fact there are more marginal/borderline skaters that get in, and there some seemingly deserving goalies that aren't.

Wings haven't won a Cup since Brett Lebda left. Wings haven't made the playoffs since Joakim Andersson left. You can keep all your fancypants Fedorovs and Datsyuks and Bill Ranfords and Robert Langs. I know who the real MVPs are.

Cholowski - Bouchard could be a solid future top pairing. If we happen to move up to 3rd overall, I'd like to see us trade back a couple spots for Bouchard. Then package our Vegas pick and the pick we acquired to move back, to move up to the middle of the 1st to take Veleno. Outside of getting Dahlin or Svechnikov, that would be my ideal 1st round...

Of all the non-Dahlin consensus top defensemen in this class, Bouchard could be the safest bet for a future top-pairing guy. Dunno if he'll be as good as Pietrangelo, but I think it's a decent comparison; Bouchard doesn't necessarily wow you with any one facet of his game, but he does everything at a high level and can play in every situation and can log big minutes and can drive a team's offense while also being accountable on the defensive side of the puck. Big body, very smart, very skilled, cool as a cucumber at all times, great skater, natural PP QB, great first pass, great shot from the point, seems to be emerging as a natural leader...just an all-around excellent prospect. He's a guy who just gets the job done. I love Boqvist for his legitimately Karlsson-esque raw talent and his creativity and I love Hughes for his skating and playmaking ability, but Bouchard is probably a safer pick. Certainly we have a glaring need for a minute-munching, all-situations, top-pairing enginer-driver type, arguably more than an electric offensive defenseman with a smallish frame and an unpolished defensive game.

https://www.nhl.com/news/rasmus-dahlin-draws-nhl-comparisons-to-victor-hedman/c-297657256 The more I see and hear about Bouchard, the more I want us to take him with our first pick. Being compared to Pietrangelo, who has been one of my favorite non-Wing players for quite some time. Yes please! Obviously the prize is Dahlin, but if we don't win the lottery, Bouchard is the player I'd be gunning for. I'd probably still take Svechnikov if we move up to 2, but I'd consider trading back in that spot. If we move up to 3, I'd move back a couple spots to take Bouchard, which would also give us another late 1st / early 2nd.

    It's inevitable (unfortunately)

@ami, "Cindy"... Why do you feminize Crosby? Because he's the best in the world and for that reason, you don't like him? Pretty childish... "Tampons"... Again feminizing. How old are you? "Ovechkin is a piece of s***"... Why? That seems like a lot of hate to me... "Thornton and Pavelski are pieces of s***"... Again, why so much hatred? "Parise and Sutter are sisters"... Again with the feminizing... "Guppies, Quacks, Dives"... I get the first two (Sharks and Ducks), but who the hell are the "Dives"? What's with all the lame names? "Buttman"... Very clever... I assume you're one of the people that constantly says "Errorson" and used to refer to Franzen as "Francine", etc, etc... I don't know man. I just don't get it. But whatever. To each their own I guess... You come off as a very angry person. What makes you so sure we won't get Dahlin? Being negative just for the sake of being negative... You're right. Ownership doesn't give a f*** about this team...

I don't recall many fans ever being that big on Hudler, other than a select few (eva). It's a bit of a stretch to say you're the only one that called Huds never leading this team... As for Franzen, there's not a question in my mind that if he remained healthy, he would have remained a 50-60 point player for at least another couple seasons. He'd likely still be a somewhat productive player at the age of 38. You weren't "right" about Franzen, unless you're saying you knew he would suffer multiple concussions... You were "right" about Hudler, like countless other Red Wings fans. You happened to be "right" about Franzen due to unfortunate (to most...) circumstances. Not really much to brag about. Though, anyone that brags about being right on the internet irk the s*** out of me anyway... But whatever...

Whoever those people that thought Franzen would come back and Hudler would lead the team were being hopeful or optimistic. You were spreading fake news about the Swedes. Specifically Z. This ain’t a thread about Hudler or Franzen # retirement.

No to Pens No to Leafs I can live with most others and it has been fun asking my Hawks friends who do they play in the playoffs. When they reply well you sucked too I reply we expected to. What's your excuse?

How can you hate so many teams and so many players? I don't get it... For me, the team I hate the most (the Hawks) are out, which is great, as long as they don't win the draft lottery. The only other teams I do not want to see win it this year, are the Pens and Leafs. F*** No! to the Pens because the thought of a team (besides the Wings) making a three-peat makes me sick, and F*** No! to the Leafs because I would never hear the end of it... I want Vegas bounced first round, because like others mentioned, we need that pick to be as high as possible. I'd like to see Philly go deep, in hopes that they can somehow make the ECF and Mrazek win 6 games, to turn that 3rd (assuming they make the playoffs) into a 2nd. Highly unlikely, but I'll be rooting for them for sure. The only team I really like in the East is Tampa, in the West, I love Winnipeg and like Nashville as well. I'm hoping for a Lightning vs Jets final. Would be an epic series in my opinion. We really need to get lucky on draft lottery day, which is April 28th. I'll be in Alberta visiting my sister and brother-in-law at the end of the month. He's a huge Habs fan, so I'm hoping Detroit move up to 1 and Montreal drop back 2 or 3 spots...

While I'm sure there would have been takers on Hasek, the reasons you gave for CuJo not getting interest are the exact same reasons why Holland should have been trying to trade him over Hasek. In 2004, we had just come off an embarrassing 1st round sweep by the Ducks with CuJo in net IIRC. We were in the middle of a Dynasty, won the President's Trophy, and were once again a favorite for the Cup. Under those circumstances, you trade the 8 million dollar goalie with the ankle injury and keep the healthier, equally priced goalie with the better resume. Being that we got knocked out that year by the lower-seeded Flames, hindsight says maybe KH should have done something differently. But, can you imagine if Holland traded Hasek instead of CuJo? Everyone would be talking about what an idiot he was for choosing "No Cup CuJo" over arguably the best goalie of all time. And how we would have won the Cup if only he kept Hasek.

First he needs to try to get into Hall of Fame (ongoing for years now). Then we can talk about jersey retirement lol. If you haven't noticed it's harder to get number retired than it is to get into hall of fame for the Red Wings
  17. 1 point
Careful what you wish for. Who are you putting in net if you give Howard away? There are better goalies for sure but there are worse ones also. As of now that leaves us with Coreau and McCallum. We can scour the free agent market like Philly, Calgary, and the Leafs have been doing for years. I'm sure there are other teams as well. Ask them how well that is going for them.

Lol! Ottawa, a team worse than ours and we're supposed to be impressed by Jimmy getting a shutout? Bawahaha!
  19. 1 point
When Z's jersey gets retired, the first person we laugh at is Jonas. Then Leftwinger since he started that propoganda fake news about Swedes wanting to play for their national team over the Red Wings or whatever that rubbish was. For years until they all declined the national team invites in favor of the Red Wings and he finally shut up.

I was all aboard this train right up until the Tatar trade. Need them to get swept the hell out of the first round so their 1st pick becomes a mid-rounder. Sorry, Knights, nothing personal, strictly business. Nashville, Winnipeg, Washington, maybe New Jersey. Those are the teams I wouldn't hate to see win the Cup this season. I guess.

I'd take Calderone to add to the Michigan Mafia... Not bad stats though! He could be worth a look! Pretty sure Holland has seen him play being from the area and playing at Michigan and he'd probably choose us over most teams. Wouldn't mind giving him a contract to help GR in the playoffs and a shot at training camp next season. Free player not having to burn a draft pick! We need a couple of RH'd RW's in the system. ...plus he's played with a lot of current NHL players, including Larkin. Late bloomer...
