Tatar is one of the young guys I wouldn't want to trade. I would keep him over Nyquist, though I like both players.

We should add a player like Tootoo to the 4th line. esteef

I read an interview a couple of months back where the new owner was talking about renaming the team with the Arizona moniker. It wasn't so much about "rebranding" them as much as it was about making the Coyotes similar in name to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals. Kind of a solidarity move, similar to how all the Pittsburgh teams have the same color scheme for their uniforms. I actually think it's pretty cool. A little state pride never hurt anyone.

    Is it 1970 again?

I wouldn't really label the board as a whole in that category, but I do agree that calling for a Datsyuk trade is wayyy overboard. That's about as knee jerk as it gets.

Still don't see what makes him a dope but regardless the guy is a scrapper and still is a great goalie... I wouldn't mind at all if they did not resign The Monster and did sign Timmy the Tank on a one year. Thomas can still be a #1 goalie and he'd challenge Howard every step of the way. A Howard-Thomas tandem would be wicked! Like Fuhr-Moog or Hasek-Osgood

    NHL may rethink Sochi

I figured I'd try the blue text so people would be more likely to notice the warning. I initially used red but then everything I posted seemed really angry. Now back on topic please.

He's also fat and bad defensively. I'd rather see one if our prospects up full time.

I do think there is trouble brewing with the team with the departures of D & Z, which is coming sooner than most hope. Regardless of when they stop playing, they are in decline now and likely subject to potential injury concerns. It's a fact of life and comes with age. There are very, very few exceptions to that. Lidstrom was one of the exceptions, his game didn't decline too much and he wasn't susceptible to injury too much either....mostly because of the style of game he played (wasn't centred around speed or physical play). You don't have that same scenario with Z & D. That said, not sure I'd start thinking there is a paralell with the Dead Wings era because of the era we are in now, it's easier to rebuild. Teams are much more competitive, the worst teams are not that much worse than the best teams. From a points perspective, some of that is artificial because of the points system, but some of it is just pure factual due to the spreading around of talent. Teams can't load up on all the superstars anymore due to the cap. Of course, you could look at it being increasingly difficult to make the playoffs as well due to the competitive nature of the league as well.

    NHL may rethink Sochi

Am I still the only one that thinks professionals shouldn't be in the Olympics? I know how it started, and all that, but the Olympics is for amateur sport. I always hope that they won't be allowed to go.

Considering they don't even play in Phoenix this move makes sense

    Wings interested in parenteau ?

Just a reference. PA is 6-0/195 RHed and 30 years old. last 3 seasons he scored 20, 18, and 18 in goals, and played all but 1 game in those 3 years. he makes 4 million per season. Ryan Callahan: 5-11/190 RHed 28 years old and will soon be making 7 million per year. Over the last 3 seasons he has scored: 23, 29, 16 goals. he has also missed 21 games. yes Callahan is considered to be a great player. But is he worth 3 million more per season? No. PA is a very good and cap friendly option vs Callahan.

Lefty, you're reaching. Lidstrom, Fetisov, Murphy, and Chelios are all Hall of Famers. Konstantinov would have been. In the 1997-1998 season Fetisov played 18:00 minutes a night and Murphy 25:00 minutes. I can't find numbers for the year before but logic dictates it was probably not less icetime given that they were a year younger. In 2001-2002 Chelios played 25 minutes a night. In 1997-1998 Lidstrom played 27:00 minutes a night, in 2001-2002 he played 28:00, and in 2007-2008 he played 26:00...again, no stats for 1996-1997 but there's no reason to assume a huge change one way or another. Finally, because he was only on the first Cup team there's no stats for Konstantinov, but considering he was considered the better of the two (at the time) between he and Lidstrom, you have to assume it was a lot for him as well. It's not like they were a bunch of young kids who hadn't reached their potential, or else old guys who were past it. They were Hall of Fame players logging HUGE minutes. You've got a moderately valid point for 2008...maybe...but that was post cap and our defense was about as good as it could be given those constraints.

    Sammy Waived

If he retires, his entire cap hit counts against the Wings. If he stays with GR, they at least get the $100K in relief from sending him down. So there's that.

    NHL may rethink Sochi

I'm not sure if Sochi is unsafe. I do know that Russian security is not top tier compared to other international powers. Confidence in their ability might be playing Into the NHL's thinking, too. At any rate, I think that players don't care as much as we think they do. It might be fun, but I don't think any would stand up to the NHL if they backed out. Better to have a career than a two week tournament.

There was a couple talks about us going after cammalleri, I came across a flames board talking about how jurco, sheahan, pulls, and jarnkrok werent worth him because they're all 3rd 4th liners in their system. Which gave me a good laugh.

    Sheahan arrested for "superdrunk" driving

Most all the guys I played hockey with had driven legally drunk at some point in their career. As far as Sheahan all I needed to know was: “I haven’t drank since, and I’ll try to keep it that way for however long I feel like I should,” he said. “Maybe sometime down the road I can venture back into it, but as of now, I don’t feel like there’s any room for it.”

You don't trade Datsyuk. Around the league he is the PLAYERS choice for best player in the league. If ANYONE is going to want to come here and play, it's to be able to play with Datsyuk, not Zetterberg. I'm sorry, Zetterberg is a star, but he is an average star, there are a bunch of players in the NHL that I would rather have on this team than Zetterberg. Pav, is a Superstar, there is nobody in this league that is a better complete NHL superstar, and nobody you could offer me that I would trade him for... I am not saying trade Zetterberg either, but if it came down to another "choice," Zetterberg would be the one to go everyday of the week.

I just want to be clear, you'd trade Datsyuk for a powerforward but Smith is untouchable?

    Visiting Tampa Bay Times Forum--Tips?

If you decide to go, I'll see you there, as will about 10,000 other Wings fans, many of whom I'm sure lurk about these boards. 1) I've been to several games at the Forum, you heard correctly, there are no bad seats. I'm too cheap to try to get lower-bowl seats, but every section I've sat in at the terrace level has had great sight lines. 2) They check tickets before you can go down the steps for the lower bowl, so unless your tickets are in the 100's I'd guess probably no ice level for warmups. 3) Expect to pay about $10, plenty of places to park within 15 minutes walking distance from the arena, well lit streets with plenty of police presence, locals are pretty friendly towards visiting fans, never had a single issue. 4) Don't know, but closest hotels are Marriott Waterside, Embassy Suites Downtown Convention Center, and Westin Harbor Island, probably one of them. 5) The Channel District has lots of decent restaurants, can't speak to the bars/nightlife since I don't drink, but check out the these links for more info Hope to see you (and a healthier Red Wings lineup) there, I'm in section 322, I'll be wearing my black Wings sweater, my very pregnant wife will be wearing a red Yzerman sweater, and my son will be wearing the road white

Well, when you overblow things people tend to get hurt. Then you have a whole team of guys out with groin injuries, and you fall out of playoff contention. Then you have too much time on your hands, and end up getting into weird hobbies like collecting American Girls dolls. Then you start going to American Girl doll conventions and everyone thinks you're a pervert. Just sayin'.

Holland didn't even make trades when we had cap space and need. He didn't even make a trade when Lidstrom was on his last legs. If anything, we should explore the option of being sellers at the deadline. Alfie, Franzen and maybe Andersson or Kindl/Smith.

    Babcock's comments on playing time

I think people are too easily dismissing just how inexperienced these kids are. When a rookie plays well at 14 minutes, that does not necessarily mean he will play even better at 19+ minutes. You have to consider the lines matchups and their defensive responsibilities. Part of the reason for relying on the vets is not just nostalgia. They've got years of experience that have led to better defensive and coverage instincts. The fact is they're more trustworthy shift after shift on a given night. That's not to say the young guys are bad in any way, just inexperienced. Babcock values players who won't screw up and cost the team goals, even when they're not producing much. With this many young guys in the lineup it's about finding the right balance. It's not as simple as "he scored playing 14 minutes so he should get 19 minutes and score more."

    Post your hockey collection

That definitely is Blades of Steel. I think there's over 90 games in that collection now. There's the original, one for N64 as well and I think one other blades of steel believe it or not. It's like the movie Slapshot....the original will always be the best. That side of the room is not unpacked properly. There's a corner piece for a sectional on the bed right now. I was more worried about the toys, hence my mother would likely slap me.
