I agree. I'm perfectly ok with games being decided by shoutout. "First up for the Red Wings is Zetterberg, let's see what he has to say. Z?" "Yeah, uh, I'd just like to make a shoutout to my boo Emma, my moms, and my homeboy Sven back in Sweden. Big ups!" "Well, that was a solid showing by the captain, let's see how the Hawks stack up. First to the mic is Patrick Kane, who will inevitably bring something sufficiently douchey to the table..." "Yo what up what up this ya boy P Kane in the hizzle, just want to give a shoutout to all the dime pieces out there, hit me up after the game and I might let you smell my cup YA KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN but on the real one love PEACE" "Point awarded to the Red Wings"

Exactly. The defense is automatically improved significantly just by experience alone. DeKeyser and Smith will continue to get better, and Quincey is very likely over his big time struggles in this lineup. Which he has already shown. Not to mention there is a very real possibility Kindl may never be in the lineup again *fingers crossed* We get that puck moving dman and suddenly the defense is looking realgud. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who is very excited to see what this team is capable of with the youth all together for the entire season

Yea, but no one says what they'd do as GM. I bet if the average Red Wing fan became GM, he/she would make horrible trades and sign over priced UFA's. We'd be like the Leafs and our team would be build around guys like Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Clarkson, van Reimsdyk and Bozak for the next 4 years plus. No thanks, I'll take Kenny, who's building the team with the draft, isn't signing any over priced UFA's, and actually knows how the cap works. I understand signing Quincey and Cleary isn't "sexy", but they're only 1 and 2 year deals. That Niskanen deal is insane! Smith and Dekeyser are going to be better then him. Unless a team has drafted the player, I don't think any UFA should be signed for over 4 years. Do an online search and see how many horrible long term UFA signings there's been since 2005-06. The Wings don't have any bad ones over 3 years. The only potential bad one could be Weiss, but he's got a few years to still make the deal a good one.

Favorite Dan Cleary Moment or Play

I figured there's not enough Dan Cleary threads around, so we should have another one Quite simply, what was your favorite Dan Cleary moment or play? For me, there's always been one answer, and it is the penalty shot goal he scored on Kiprusoff in game 5 of the 2007 WCQF. If you remember, the Wings had choked in the playoffs the previous three seasons, as a higher seed playing against a lesser seed. The season before, we had been embarrassed by an 8 seeded Edmonton team. Once again, in 2007, the Wings were the top seed heading into the postseason. We beat Calgary the first two games at home, but they tied it at 2-2 in Calgary. Coming back home, everyone thought the Wings were on their way to another choke against an 8 seed. There was a lot of tension and panic around (and I wasn't even on LGW then). The game was 0-0 in the 2nd period, until Cleary got a penalty shot. This is what happened next. We went on to win that game comfortably and the next game in double OT, and went to the WCF. It's technically not the biggest goal he scored for the Wings (the one against Anaheim was), but the Wings needed that goal, because we might have been facing another choke job in the first round and a possible dismantling of the team. It was also a great move against a top goalie. What's your favorite Cleary play?

It's not the best, but it's not as bad as you make it out to be.

http://penguins.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=56899 Looks like he was primarily involved with the Forwards and Penalty Kill Units. Maybe this opens the door for Bylsma to come in as the second assistant.. that'd be interesting.

If you can meld Chris Chelios and Kris Draper into one person, I'm on board with that.

No thanks. I'd prefer someone who's actually coached a single hockey game at any adult level. Tired of this good ol boy s***. This organization needs to start acting professionally.

Yeah, if whoever edited that doesn't like the management style of the best GM in sports, maybe they should follow another team..

Kronwall's better than Niskanen. I agree with your main point, though.

I just thought of something. The reason Ken Holland wants all his players to be overripe and 1000% NHL ready is because in his 1st NHL game he got lit up for 7 goals. It all makes sense now.

Sure we could miss the playoffs and some will still say the exact same thing and use the exact lame excuses we've been hearing since 2009. Yeah and because this team is so great, many reputable and serious sources are having the Wings as UFA losers. I don't need to be a GM to accept the fact that Holland has become too emotionally attached to a declining roster without a real identity. Niskanen would have been instantly this teams best defenseman so yeah what a horrible contract for a 27 old kid. Haha building through the draft yeah right and that's why he traded away the most promising center prospect and a second for two months of Legwand AND created two of the most hilarious UFA signings. Being too attached happens to the best of them and Holland is no exception here, I just don't understand why the guy doesn't want to move up and let a fresh guy run the show.

What?? Hossa is streaky maybe, but he isn't lazy or a floater. The guy goes all out even when he's not putting up points. The biggest downside of Hossa is his increasing list of nagging injuries.

I'm not sure he'd be the best PP coach. "Just make a perfect pass to the spot where you know Kozlov will be. He'll make a couple nice moves in the corner and throw a no look pass to where Konstantinov will be, who is cutting back door from the point. If Vladdy doesn't have a high percentage scoring chance then Fedorov will have already moved into position by the far post for an outlet. Simple."

It's a neat trick, but... [cranky old man] I'd rather see him out there at the end of practice working on picking the top corner, or firing slapshots or something [/cranky old man] which admittedly he may have been doing before or after this video. It's just that stuff like that is cool I guess but has zero usefulness in a game, other than improving his general hand eye coordination. I'm more impressed by a kid grinding it out after practice firing puck after puck.
