Pasha is just another way of saying Pavel, lengthwise it's the same, but Pavel and Pasha are the same name also.It's like Sam and Sammy, Sammy isn't short for Sam, but a softer way of saying Sam.

While we are all sending best wishes to the Howe family, I though it would be worthwhile to unearth this clip of "Mr Hockey" in his prime. And playing against Maurice "Rocket" Richard, no less. This 8mm color film was recently converted by my company, Priceless Photo Preservation of Ann Arbor, for the family of the late Richard Maher, who was fortunate enough to have great seats in the Olympia the one night he brought his movie camera. I can't tell you the exact year because it is not marked on the film. But I've done a little detective work (detailed in the blog post) that narrows it down to 1958-1960. Perhaps some of you would like to take a stab at figuring it out? By the way, I don't belive No. 7 in the Red Wings jersey is Ted Lindsay. If my time period is correct, this happened a year or two after he was traded away from Detroit.

Hey I hope as much as the next guy that someone watches the film of the one PP he was on and sees how active he was. He's a natural which is why in colllege, and in GR he was successful on the PP.

OK, that was fast. Shipped off my PS4 on Friday afternoon, one week ago today. Because I live in a small outside-the-metroplex suburb of Dallas, FedEx didn't pick it up until Monday, arriving at Sony's door on Wednesday... It shipped back to me yesterday. Sony didn't even have my console for 24 hours. And, FedEx is now showing that it is slated for delivery today. If so, that's a turnaround of exactly one week. That's damn impressive.

The Wings look like a playoff team to me right now. If they don't suffer too many serious injuries, they're going to easily make the playoffs this year. Whether they're bounced early or not doesn't matter so much. They're looking much more solid right now in many ways, and that's what matters. I think they'll do alright in the playoffs if this keeps up. They might not make a run, but I think it'll go better than last year.

There are forced nicknames that I'm not a fan of at all (or things like Goose that come from a bad pronounciation of Nyquist's name). Then there are the vast majority of nicknames that just make sense to use. Z. Pav/Dats. Gordie. Danny. Mike/Babs. Nicknames are very much part of real life and not something that only happens in sports. And I gotta say that I never imagined us being 9 games into the season with one of the biggest issues about the team being whether to say Nestrasil or Nesty. I thought for sure we'd talk about why Daniel Cleary is still in the lineup or why we re-signed Kyle Quincey.

But agree that they fly more if you are in the actual locker room. Usage probably reflects the fact that I wish I was one of the boys (also term that is used) in the locker room/have been in the past. The "month of death" is almost in the books. 5-2-2 record so far. Big game against LA on Friday, but so far the Wings are on the right track. Happy with the results so far. Glad we didn't chose to tank it this year.

So two years the league was in such bad shape that it was shutdown with the lockout, but now let's add 4 teams? The ineptitude is mind-boggling, either Bettman was dropped on his head as I child or someone should drop him on it now.
