I like it. Need a little bit of nasty on this soft team. Most current Red Wings wouldn't dare cut off the mattress tag, and if they did they would probably turn themselves in the next day. -

His uncle is a shadow he doesn't deserve. If you're going to judge Tyler do it without comparing him to Todd. -

Check the STH ticket exchange here. Sometimes they're overpriced, but sometimes you can find someone just trying to unload them. -

0-5. I actually think 4-1 with the lone loss coming to Toronto. We play as good as the team against us is in the standings. I'm sure there will be an OT win mixed in there -

Plays liek this happen in every single hockey game from PeeWee through the NHL. Nothing to get worked up about at all. I would rather have guys doing this type of thing that say getting DUI's and endangering the public or running gambling rings from their houses, or having drug issues, or sexual assaults....... -
1 pointI don't get how anyone can not be excited to see this kid in a Red Wings jersey in a couple years... Bertuzzi has a nose for the net, goes to the dirty areas, wins puck battles, not afraid to play on the edge, all of that to go along with a ton of offensive ability. What's not to be excited about? Sure, he sometimes crosses the line, but he has cleaned up his game a ton, and like someone already mentioned, he is still a young kid that is developing, and learning the ins and outs of being a pro. I missed this game, so I'm not sure exactly what caused Bert to react this way, but what if Kapanen laid a dirty hit or a nasty two hander to one of the Griffins on the previous shift? Would his actions be warranted then? I'm sure some here would still say no, but I like when players stand up for one another. I sure as hell would have loved to see someone do something like this to Bennett after that dirty hit on Quincey, or Stone on Ferraro. Bert likely was out of line here, and I'm sure he had a talking to after the game. I just hope he doesn't clean up his game too much... The Red Wings could definitely use that snarl on their roster.

There is a 2 game suspension coming here. But if you ask me, the league should give him 15 games, WITHOUT PAY. It'd make everyone in the league sit up and take notice. If they're dead serious about eliminating these kinds of hits from the game, they need to get on with it. Also, super effort in this game by the Wings. Only the 3rd time all year I thought they played a true 60 minute game. Lets see if we can keep it going on tuesday night. P.s. Larkin is going to be a star. P.p.s Mrazek is also going to be a star -

While Bertuzzi needs to dial it down a notch, its these kind of guys who play with a little bit of a feisty edge that the Wings really need IMO. Just watch our games with the sole purpose of looking for Wings players INITIATING body contact. There really isn't a lot of it. Ironically, when Z and Datsyuk throw their bodies around, the results are good. Take a look at the great Wings teams that most of us on this board grew up with. Guys like Maltby, McCarty, Kocur, Shanny, Lapointe, Konstantinov. All willing to punish opposing players and rough it up a little to win. Balance that with the sort of high end scoring talent that this team is developing (in guys like Larkin, Nyquist, Tatar etc) and we may be able to go somewhere. Our D is way too soft. Ericsson, if he applied himself physically game in and game out, could be a FORCE. He's huge, and has some serious strength. None of the fights he got into last year were even close. Neil wanted a piece of him saturday, but you can tell he would have got hammered if the refs had let them go. Kronwall hasn't played the body now really in the last few seasons, probably because he's now the number 1 d man and was also the primary offensive D man. I also think that his most recent suspension in the playoffs has signalled the death of anyone getting Kronwalled every again. He's too valuable to the team to miss time over a suspension, and he knows it. This is why Brad Stuart was such a great addition in 07. He played with an edge that the D didn't have and he brought it physically night in night out. I'm not saying the wings need to change everything and go to a bunch of goons, but even 1 hard hitting D man on the back end, and one or two more physical forwards would go a long way in making this team more dangerous. -

Let's not expect the world of the guy. He will block 99 shots and he'll have a GWG in one of 2 games they win. He'll also fall to -8 +/- on the season. In the five game stretch they're going: 2-1-2. 6 out of a possible 10 points. -

The Wings looked like the team we saw last year. Good fore-check, especially good d-men initiative moving up the puck and themselves, scrambling things up for Ottawa. Judging from what I saw, they weren't expecting that, felt like they got a few uppercuts from those rushes. Also the Senators looked rather spent last night which probably helped. Anyhow, a good sign from the team, hope we keep it up and get a few skilled bodies in asap. And what a wrap-around from Larkin. Good stuff. -

1. Re-read what she said, and before jumping to irrational hostility because you think she called you out, think about it. She didn't say that she wants them to suck, she said she'd rather them suck than not have the balls to try and get better. Babs wasn't taking us to the next level, we moved on and were going with blash. I get that you think that he's the common denominator in the problems with the team, but what do you suggest. firing the guy after 10 games? Then who are you gonna bring in to coach? What's going to happen at the twenty game mark when that doesnt work? Fire him too? Keep running through the Rolodex of coaches that are okay with having to make the team a contender within ten games or be fired? Have some resolve man, when things don't go your way you don't throw in the towel and move onto the next thing. This is the Detroit red wings, have a little faith. 2. Yes. Plenty more. Hockey is a complex game, you can call them excuses if you'd like, but fine. They're excuses. What's the reason for the current play? Since you're going to say Blashill, fine. Its all Jeff Blashill. Once again, how do you suggest the person we bring in fix the problem? Prepare the team better during the 3 days off before your next game. Cool. Go through the tape with them, run them through it in practice, apply it in game. It needs tweaking? You have three more days, and now you can't skate them as hard because you don't want them to have dead legs for the back to backs. 3. Yeah, Howard played great. But the last game they played was with Mrazek in net, And his puck handling does change the way you execute the break out of your zone. Its not that howards way is worse, but it is different, so add that to the list of tweaks you have to make. Blash needs to stick with a goalie for now and play him when the games are spaced out, that way you get a rhythm, but he's a new coach, and there is a legitimate competition for the number one spot. So do you choose one over the other, or do you stick to your guns and let them actually have a fair chance at the #1 spot? Is that an excuse, or should he actually wait it out and see who gives the team the best chance? Argue that blash needs to just choose one and stick with it like babs would do, (the tie goes to the vet) Would that be the best decision for the team or would you rather us make the right changes to get us over the hump? 4. You're correct, rocket science is exact. And There is no formula for a successful team. But when the rockets are unsuccessful engineers don't consider it an excuse to throw away the blueprints, they take the steps to fix the problems. 5. If our biggest problem going forward is how to play the Ottawa senators two nights in a row then you might have a point, but the goal is to take the team the team Babcock hasn't gotten out of the second round with since 2009 to the next level. Also once again, think about what was said instead of just jumping on it because you think its against what you believe. "Not only are we tired for the 2nd game, it also takes away the time to watch tape on the upcoming team and the time to correct mistakes in practice from the previous game." We've had back to backs followed by games three days apart, and only once has that schedule deviated down to two games between. Even if you do all the prep work and practicing to fix the problems you still have to apply it to a game to see how it works. So then you have to go through the whole process over again, but now you can't practice it without risking tiring their legs out for the upcoming back to back games. The schedule is essentially limiting Blashill to one game a week to properly prepare changes to make the team better. Mike Babcock, widely considered to be one of, if not the best coach in hockey only got one cup with a team that had lidstrom, PEAK datsyuk, zetterberg, and Franzen as well as a laundry list of ridiculously talented and varied depth behind them. This team needs to be better than it has been, because making the playoffs is a high priority. But we need to make it past the second round, because that's been mediocre for the wings for a while now, and since when did wings fans become accepting of mediocrity? -

The thread was inevitable, but the approach was in poor taste. There are other threads, including the GDT, where tonight's game and recent play can be discussed. I don't see this continuing on as constructive, nor do I think that the initial post was intended for it to result that way. We've all been here before, these skids happen every season. Let's keep our heads screwed on and try to remain civil and respectful. -
