    Happy 20th Anniversary, LGW!

Thanks, guys! I apologize for not seeing this sooner. I've been out of pocket for the last couple of weeks due to the loss of a family member and just got back tonight -- and I have to say seeing this thread brought a smile to my face. Technically the actual 'birth' of the site is September 15th, 1996 -- right around training camp for the 1996-97 season and at that stage it didn't even have a message board. It was started on GeoCities and consisted of the cheesiest of tiled ice backgrounds, a picture of Steve Yzerman saluting the crowd from the bench after scoring his 500th career goal on Patrick Roy and a bit of text about what I was planning on doing with the site. I really wish I had some of the stuff from those first years. After a couple seasons on GeoCities the site moved to be one of a few fan sites on PuckPlace.com, then to a server that was hosted by the previous owners of HockeysFuture.com and then eventually to where it is now (and where it has remained for the bulk of those past 20 years.) I started this place as a bored 17-year old living in the sticks in SE Michigan and it has followed me to college, marriage, a career and two beautiful daughters of 9 and 10 (!). It's been crazy. Life has gotten in the way often and I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I'd like to the site (and I'm always saying I'm going to get refocused) -- so I really, really appreciate the comments here and the help the moderation team has provided over the years. It's invaluable. Thank you!

This is like saying the Red Wings should study the Black Hawks ability to win cups. McDavid is the Wayne Gretzky of his 10 year period. Larkin is the Steve Yzerman.

hopefully everyone on the wings roster studies mcdavids ability to score.. then we'll never have a goal scoring problem again

Yeah let him take as much time as he needs if Howard keeps playing well. Shouldn't rush back from a groin issue. Let him rest a bit more, and let Howard try and raise his trade value. All good.

One more game off won't hurt and Howard's had two great starts in a row. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Larkin is doing great. I didn't expect him to do what he's already done going into this season. He's beyond exceeded lots of people's expectations. He's cooled off lately, but it was bound to happen. No big deal. McDavid was the most hyped player since Crosby. He's got 31 points in 28 games on a last place team. If he wasn't injured he'd have alot more. Larkin isn't at his level.

    Jakub Kindl traded to Panthers

For all those sad about a blockbuster move not being made... Just remember: Jakub Kindl is no longer a Detroit Red Wing. [emoji38]

    Happy 20th Anniversary, LGW!

I've been trying to track down the exact date, but all I know is LGW is 20 years old this year, so it will be a 10-month long party. Thanks, Matt, for creating LetsGoWings and for all the hard work you put into it. The modern "traditional" gift for a 20th anniversary is platinum. The closest we have here to that is silver, so one lucky person is going to become a silver Booster. They will be randomly chosen. Since Gordie is the most awesome player of all time, the 9th person to PM me expressing their interest will be the one boosted. If I don't get 9, I'll eeny meeny miny mo 'cheese the ones I do receive by 9pm on March 4th, 9 days from now.

I think it's fair to compare Larkin to Eichel but not McDavid. Just because Eichel was a 2nd pick and because he was highly anticipated by the media doesn't mean he's better than Larkin at the NHL level. Aren't you always talking about eye ball rather than stats? Using my eye balls I can say with confidence that Eichel and Larkin are comparable. And with my eyeballs I can say that McDavid is at another level.

    Happy 20th Anniversary, LGW!

I'm glad to have been a member of this board for 13 of those almost-20 years. I have such great memories of times spent and discussions had on these forums, and have been lucky enough to have made several life long friendships with other members. Thanks to Matt for creating the forums and putting in so much hard work to keep it running. Thanks to my fellow Mods for all their hard work (especially since life has tended to drag me away from here recently). And finally, thanks to all the members of the forums! You the real MVP(s)! Happy (almost) 20th, LGW! Just think, one more year and this site can buy us all a beer!

McDavid is a generational talent, Larkin isn't. Please do not compare these two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Smith is better than Marchenko and Ericson. I know I'm in the minority with that opinion but damn
