    1) the Skankees also charge more than an average mortgage to take your family to a game. They don't need the revenue. 2) Corporate naming rights are the norm, and it could have been worse. 3) It doesn't matter what they call it, if the team is good it will be packed, of the team sucks it will be empty.

They are no different than 5 of the other original 6 teams. Chicago: United Centre (airline) Montreal: Bell Centre (Phone) Boston: TD Garden (Bank) Toronto: ACC (airline) I'm sorry but this post as well as so many others are a complete overreaction. Do I like the name, no, but its really not a big deal. At least its named after a corporation that our owner founded.

Again, some of you are taking it to extreme.

Just popping in to say it looks like the penny has dropped with a lot of people. Ken Holland is a clown who hid behind the success of Håkan Andersson for many, many years. With the majority of Andersson's players gone or on the decline there was never any real attempt by Holland for so many years to keep the Wings at the top, just a lot of cast away one-year rentals that and the never ending presence of Dan Cleary. He has literally waited to the point where we're on the cusp of becoming a team that won't even make the playoffs before he's decided he actually has to do his job and make us a better team...although his job is apparently for us to expect less, so then he's doing a better job without actually having to do anything? The guys a joke. Huge thanks to Håkan Andersson for giving us such a good team between 2006-10.

If the founder wasn't the Wings owner, I would agree with you. It may be "a joke" to some today, but people will get over it as time passes.

My two-cents, for what it's worth: yes, the very wealthy Illitch family can name "their" arena anything they want. It's what weathy people do, a lot. They name big garish buildings after themselves, in spite of the fact that the big fancy building was built on the backs of tons of lower caste people who dedicated their working lives to creating that funds that made the big fancy building possible. Do I think they care for the franchise and the players as people -- yes, I do believe that. I've seen the family treat players like their own family plenty of times when things got rough for a player. This is a two-edged sword. Without the fans buying pizza (never had it, but hear it's bad, or good, depending on who you ask), and fans to pay a LOT for game tickets for decades on end -- the Illitches would not be quite so wealthy. That said, I believe the fans and people of Detroit should have a vote in what the new arena is called. Or, at the very least, have the right to protest if they think the new name is stupid. Personally, I would have really liked to see the new arena named Gordie Howe Arena. It would have been respectful, very fitting and I suspect NO ONE would have said anything other than -- well done!! Honor the franchise which contributed heavily to the wealth -- pizza was part of it... not all of the story. I would have been so proud to say "I've been to The Gordie," to see my Wings. Now, I will just say, glad I got to see the new Red Wings Arena. That's what it will be called in my feeble little fan brain.

For me, that ridiculously stupid Niedermeyer shot that deflected up off of Nick's stick in the final seconds hurts a lot worse. I mean....that puck just FLEW up on Hasek.

    The Missed Chances: '03, '04, '06

What made the 2009 loss so bad was the Wings were up 2-0 in the series. 2 damn wins away from another back to back championship. It never should have gone 7, nevermind the Wings being on the losing end. Should have been skate to the throat heading into Game 3, but they gave the Pens life instead. Horrible collapse capped off with the NHL's new golden boy skating the cup around the Joe. s*** still stings.

Maple Leafs win 2016 draft lottery

I still don't believe it. I'm fully expecting to wake up tomorrow and find out it's all a cruel joke. These things don't happen to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ever. Don't ya think if they were going to purchase a 1st overall pick, it would've been last year?

Oh no, one of our depth players left and will likely be replaced by someone from GR, what will we do?

Radulov would not score less than 40 points in the NHL in a full season. That just won't happen even in our anemic offense. The guy is a two-way (this I'm not sure about but he did gather Selke votes in the NHL) stud who dominates his league and in international competition. When the NHL stars went over there during the lockout his production was right below Malkin and above guys like Datsyuk. It's not unreasonable to think he'd be a top 12-15 winger in the NHL near the level of someone like Panarin or Kucharov. Most russian fans put him above those guys anyway. I don't think he'd produce as well as Panarin beause not every team has a Kane to play with. The issue isn't this guys talent.. it's that he's a grade A ******. Typically that isn't our style. 50-58 points on a team like ours. 60-70 points on a top 10 team. And in today's unfortunate NHL that's big time first line status.

9 years ago he scored 26 goals and 58 points, and on a team that scored more than the Wings. No, I don't think 50 points is at all reasonable, and I'd say 40 would even be a stretch. He's never been any better than any of our current scorers, and I don't see any reason to believe he would be now. I wouldn't offer him even $1.5 for one year. Rather give some kids a chance.

He's scored 53 goals in 172 NHL games. He's turning 30 in a couple months. Why would we think he would suddenly become better if we added him? Playoff bubble team, inept offense that drove pretty much everyone's numbers down, likely losing our best player. To me that doesn't seem like the right formula to get a career best performance out of a 30 yo who hasn't played in the NHL in 5 years.

I, for one, applaud the change. The old logo has no place in our modern PC world it is angry and aggressive and evokes feelings of violence and rape. It at once scares, disgusts and offends me. I welcome the passive pussycat as the new logo...
