    Farewell To Joe Louis Arena

I'll be there, but I cant do any of that as being from Canada I have no signal unless I get on their crappy wi-fi. Ill take a crapload of pics though and post.

I agree with that. Which is why I thought donations to cephalopod research, and or preservation, on big games nights would be a nice gesture for the Wings to do. Give the tradionalists their fun, but then also plug that charity/foundation. Kinda saying, hey thats a cool unique tradition you got there, but on the reals lets try to be good to and protect these creatures ya?

We should have a contest. Whoever guesses closest to the actual number of octopi thrown on Sunday gets a prize, we just need a reasonable yet cool prize though

Yeah PETA can suck it. If I buy a dead cephalopod, I can eat it, throw it on the ice, or dress it up and have a tea party with 9 tea cups. What happens between a man and his octopus is his own business.

Yes, please! if anyone here happens to go, and could periscope it ( www.periscope.tv ) would mean the world for us that are away. And it would be saved for posterity too. So please, be awesome and share. LGRW!!!

Here is my idea then: throw PETA members on the ice Best response would be to throw even more on the ice and make a big deal out of it.

But that's my whole point. We're better with Babs. It's hard not to be, he's a top 5 coach and we lost him. Hindsight is 20/20 but I've on on been on this warpath since before Babs was gone, which is why I have that crappy told ya so attitude about it. What irks is me is the whole "meh we needed to change coaches anyway" attitude, as if he suddenly "went stale" and we needed to ditch him regardless. We did not fire him. He went to the market and chose a new team. A now better team with a brighter future. Babcock did not go stale. The Red Wings went stale.

I agree with you. But I'd hardly say there's a market for Octopus related to the Red Wings. How many go on to the ice a year? A few? 10? More if we make the playoffs? Nobody out there has a business built around selling octopus to Wings fans. We're hardly a blip. The point I'm trying to make is this is not about animal cruelty. Animals are not being harmed. Its about waste. Improper use of something that could otherwise be food. Which is why I think this argument is more suited for my mother than it is for PETA. And I think if you wanna combat wasting food, going after fat drunk guys from down river detroit, who throw octopi at ice managers, is the wrong place to start Of course PETA will tell you that throwing the corpses of their octocomrades is literally murder in and of itself

PETA is just a bunch of liberal hypocrites and ecoterrorists who periodically put out some completely ridiculous statement to get attention. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

They used the wrong word. Traditions, by their very nature, can't be outdated because you keep doing them for symbolic purposes. Perhaps they should have said "irrelevant". Throwing octopi on this ice isn't outdated, it happens every year. But it's totally irrelevant given that it takes more than 8 wins to get a Cup nowadays. It's just something people do because they've always done it, but it has no relevance to modern hockey at all. I guess maybe it's symbolic of "Detroit-ness". But so are Atwater beer and coneydogs, why not throw them on the ice? And if we're dead set on the number 8 I think we should switch to hot dog buns. Firstly, because it's cheaper. Secondly, because hot dog buns have just as much relevance to hockey as octopi do. Which is to say, zero relevance. Whoa! I think you're on to something. The traditional large pizza has EIGHT slices! And seventy years ago it took EIGHT wins to hoist the Cup. Is the universe trying to tell us something? This is cosmically significant!

They are already dead. And it's not an outdated tradition in my opinion.

Those PETA kids have just never felt the raw pleasure of stuffing sea-life down their pants in order to later throw at their favorite ice-maker-car driver guy

I would give a lot to be there... no chance at all, but I can wish. I really hope someone records it all and puts it on youtube for those of us who cannot be there in person.

    Farewell To Joe Louis Arena

I make the voyage to Detroit and / or Toronto every year with a few of my buddies to see a Wings Leafs game, sometimes a couple. Unfortunately though, I wasn't able to afford to go this year because I've been forking out crazy cash for my upcoming wedding (next month)... It turns out, those same buddies I make the trip with every year are a couple of the best guys ever (despite being Leaf fans). They woke me up this morning banging on my door at 7am to tell me they have a surprise for me (early bachelor party). They handed me a ticket for the game Saturday night against the Leafs. I thought for sure it was some sort of sick joke, but anyway, packing my bags now to fly to Toronto, staying there tonight and flying to the D tomorrow. Never been so f***ing pumped in my life. Can't believe I'm getting down to the Joe one last time. Hopefully we can pull out the W! LGW!!!
