Targets for the Wings
marcaractac and 3 others reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
Seriously? You think Zetterberg should be our number 3 center? After the season he just had, ranking 11th in the league in points? Zetterberg proved, not that he can just keep up, but that he's still an elite level player. He's putting up great numbers, while still being one of the better two-way centers in the game. Z is still far and away our best center (and our best player), and he will be our top center until he inevitably slows down. Maybe that's this year, maybe next year, but until then, he is our best option down the middle, and it's not even close. -

I know you're being sarcastic, but I'd take Jarnkrok back in a heartbeat. I get why we made that trade at the time, but we definitely lost the trade. I think David Poile is one of the better (probably most underrated) GM's in the league (maybe not after this season)... The Forsberg trade may be one of the most lop-sided trades in recent memory. The Jarnkrok trade has worked out great for them. The Johansen for Jones trade was a great one considering their insane depth at defense. The Subban for Weber trade is up there as another one of the more lop-sided trades. I think he's been doing a great job there for quite some time, and it's all finally paying off. Good to see. -

Zetterberg IS still a number one center in this league, would be on many teams and is on THIS team. THAT is the reality, not whatever you're trying to spin. I'd like to see Zetterberg's minutes reduced and Larkin's (as well as the other kids') minutes increased, but as long as Zetterberg demands the minutes (with his elite play), you don't take it away from him. You don't sit your best player when you're trying to win hockey games. You get him out there as often as you can, as often as his body will allow it. I'll admit, I was one of the many that said Zetterberg may be better suited in a 3rd line role before last season. I'll also admit that I couldn't have been more wrong about that. Z had an awful season the year before (to his standards), and it looked like he was slowing down at rapid pace. He proved this past season that that is not the case, and he still has a lot left in the tank. So I'll say it again, until he shows fatigue, you keep playing your best player, the work horse, Hank the Tank, Zetterberg as your number one center... -

That's how to impress the ladies bro, finesse with the leg kick. Well, hockey players are generally not that strong when starting off compared to other sports (Football, Basketball for instance) but that is pretty sad. On the other hand the article says McDavid did only 6 pull ups and he's supposed to be better than Crosby so.. 1 vs 6.. Ehh sounds weak either way for both. -

I agree, and yeah they won the trade value-wise. We were looking for short-term gain at the sacrifice of the future. I wouldn't be mad if somehow Jarnkrok came back, but I see him as a career 3rd line center, not exactly something we are in need of. There are lots of other players I would look at first. -

I don't feel strongly either way. However, this might be one of the smarter drafts to trade down in. -

Whether or not that skill will translate is exactly what I mean. No doubt he's a skilled AHL player, but that doesn't make him a skilled NHL player. Maybe he'd be productive in the right situation, maybe not. We already know Abby, and to a slightly lesser extent Helm and Sheahan, can be. But everyone wants to ignore that, because new things I guess. Like I said, I don't object to giving him a shot. I just don't expect him to be better than anyone. Probably not a whole lot of examples of decent NHL scorers that took 3 years to become decent in the AHL. -
1 pointThe Preds fans are loud as hell, but the one thing that bugs me a bit is the complaining every time one of their players gets knocked down. It's as if they don't know the rules and think everything is a penalty against them. I get it that every fan base thinks there's always penalties committed against their team, but they seem to boo after the strangest things.

Frk is a very skilled hockey player, and to say otherwise is just ignorant. Whether that skill that has made him so successful at the AHL level will translate to the NHL is yet to be determined. If put in the right situation, I think Frk can be a very good 3rd line winger at the NHL level. If he's thrown on a line with Sheahan and Abdelkader, I don't think he will do a whole lot, but if he's put on a line with Nielsen and Svechnikov (guys that can distribute the puck) like kip suggested, I think he'd be able to put up points. If he's used properly he could be a good fit on a team that lacks quality shooters. I hope he's given a legit shot in training camp... -

Is Frk really a skill player though, or do we just think that because so far we've only seen his skill relative to AHL players? Helm was a good scorer in juniors and did far better in the AHL than Frk did at the same age. Who knows how he might have looked if he had stayed another two years. Abby scored at a similar rate to even Frk's good seasons. Even Miller was a solid AHL scorer. I don't particularly object to giving Frk a shot, but it's a bit of stretch to expect him to do much of anything. I would expect Abby, Helm, and Sheahan to all produce better than Frk given the same linemates. And oddly enough, I wouldn't expect Abby or Sheahan (both being more complimentary players) to produce much from the 4th line (and their history seems to support this). Helm maybe, depending on how his body holds up. Frk may actually be able to produce better than either in that role. -

I wouldn't worry about his lack of pull ups. At this point in his career its all about skating and that ain't using his arms as much as his lower body. As he matures he will fill out and the weight room will be his second home! When i enlisted into the Army as a young 17 yr old i only managed 3 pull ups and the target was 5. I recall the PTI telling dont worry kid, we'll sort that out, and true to his word at the end of my training the gym test came and i hit the bar and knocked out 33, so im sure wherever he ends up they will get him beefed up. -
1 pointPreds have solidly outplayed the Pens in at least two, potentially all three, games. They just got s*** goaltending the first two games. Anybody who watched those first two games and came away thinking the Pens were running away with this wasn't paying attention.
