Julien is like Blashill on steroids. Defense, defense, grit, grit, veterans, veterans, questionable roster management, questionable roster management. Would I trade Nyquist for him? Yes. Galchenyuk is significantly younger, has the potential to be a really good top-six centerman, and scored 30 goals a couple seasons ago (albeit on a good Habs team). And he was drafted third overall, so he has some pedigree, for what that's worth.

I mean, yeah, he's probably the better coach. But let's not pretend he's known for running a pure meritocracy. All the complaints about Babcock and Blashill leaning too heavily on veterans and not trusting the younger players etc. etc. etc.? We'd have the same complaints about Julien.

You forget: Marc Bergevin is crazy.

I'd rather call up Mcilrath. Lashoff is a decent placeholder yeah, but it's not like were gonna win games because we called him up over Big Dylan, or Hicketts, or any other guy that's nearly ready for that matter. At least Mcilrath will infuse some knuckle dragging into the lineup while he's up. At this point in his career Lashoff is a waste of roster space.

I would take the trade of Galchenyuk for AA and Ericsson!

You realise that would work out to more than 50 games for Howard right? If Howard got 2 games every 3, he would get approximately 55 starts, leaving Mrazek with 27... Howard has been unreal. Hopefully he keeps it up. Mrazek was great last game too, aside from that one duster he let in. If he can prevent them, and Howard can stay healthy, we'll have one hell of a duo that should be able to (continue to) steal us some games.

From that first piece: What we are also learning is that while the Red Wings are not actively shopping Athanasiou, teams are calling about him, with the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings displaying the most interest in him. The Canadiens, who are currently being outscored by Alex Ovechkin and are tied with Mika Zibanejad, James Neal and Brandon Saad, desperately need a player who can provide them with offense. (Could a deal involving Alex Galchenyuk make sense at this point? Yes. Yes, it could.) Athanasiou fits the Kings’ new philosophy tilting toward more speed and offense and the Senators could use a player of Athanasiou’s skill and speed to supplement their left wing corps. It's Ken Campbell, whose word I tend to take with a grain of salt -- but I do agree that, in theory, an AA-Galchenyuk swap makes some sense. Certainly the idea is tantalizing. Galchenyuk is 23. He's gifted offensively and problematic defensively. He's a natural center who has the potential to be a solid top-six centerman, but he hasn't really been able to earn his coaches' trust on that front -- and now he's skating on Montreal's fourth line, as a winger. He's probably better than AA at this time. He's definitely the more proven player. But it's no secret that the Habs need some dynamic, gamebreaking talent up front. AA might be able to help that cause. Galchenyuk's cap hit is $4.9M, so we'd probably have to send them more than just AA. Unlike the Wings, the Habs do have some cap space...

Lashoff is like the perfect depth defenseman. Not good enough for full time NHL duty, but not totally useless, a solid call-up. Good veteran presence in the minors to play with the kids. He's like a Bizarro-Ericsson. He has the mental acuity of an NHL d-man, but he just lacks the physical skill.

He could have given AA a bit more and still signed Daley. Could have skipped out on Witkowski, and I dunno what ever became of the Sheahan to Pittsburgh trade that was apparantly very close to a done deal. That could have freed up cap too. There’s apparently lots of interest in Sheahan, but for some reason it seems Holland won’t pull the trigger on a trade. The amount he is offering AA is pretty much in line with what other teams have signed similar aged similar producing young forwards for though. Either his agent hasn’t explained that to him, or he just doesn’t care. Who knows. Just not a player I’d like to lose is all.

If AA signs in Switzerland, doesn't that mean they are choosing sides? I thought the Swiss were always neutral.

Mrazek wasn’t bad. People like to overreact. It was ONE game. Jimmy started against the Wild and Sens, and played excellent. He won’t play every game. Mrazek has to play too. Mrazek drew the Stars, who have much more offensive firepower, and held the fort. The whole team played differently than the first two games. Quite a few brain farts out there. One goal was Mrazek’s fault. Overall, he played well. 3 goals on what, 32 shots? From what I saw, he’s better than last season. And yes, no breakdown after the softie, which is encouraging in itself. You guys do realize 4 pucks got by Howard in the first game? Got the benefit of two waved off. Both goalies are gonna see a lot of rubber this year unless the D can tighten up. I hear Kronwall is nearing return though...

A lot of mistakes.. - stupid goalie change...let's look at other teams, does anyone change the goaltender when the starter opens the season with a SV% of 0.961? Uhm, no. It's just us. - that top line makes no sense..change mantha and tatar, both nyquist and tatar with Z lacks too much size plus they are too similar. - wtfkowski...did i realize he played? oh, yes, once...when he went to the box... - the neverending Errorson, it's unbelieavable..if i would get a dollar for every time that guy doesnt hit the puck, just air, when trying to pass it, i could easily outweigh all of that retirement-fund-pretending recently discussed on this board..

The defense really struggled with a much faster, bigger and stronger Dallas forecheck. Daley has been great on both ends these first three games. Very impressed. Green is pretty bad in his end but still making plays offensively so I’m content with his play so far. The rest of the D is just bad I don’t care who it is. Hopefully we see Hicketts for some games

Bring back the Mantha - Zettrerberg - Tatar line. It was actually one of the better lines in the NHL last year.
