All realistic, unrealistic, and dream scenarios aside, please, please, PLEASE be our next GM. Please.

Not sure how I feel about Holland moving on to Seattle and taking Tyler Wright with him. His staff has done a pretty excellent job of drafting going all the way back to Larkin.

Most shocking news of the off season??? One more year on his deal with Tampa... one more year until Kenny is ready for an advisory role???

I can understand the hard on that every Detroit fan has for Yzerman taking over as GM for the Wings, but when I look at it, I really don't know how good or bad this is going to be. This could go very well for Detroit. Yzerman makes some great moves for the Wings and they find themselves competing for a cup in the next 3-4 years. On the flip side, he makes some bad deals and drafts some duds and then everyone is ready to lynch Yzerman by year three or four. I remember seeing Yzerman play as a kid in the 80s and then leading the team to compete for a championship in the 90s, so I think I would give Yzerman quite a bit of rope when it comes to GMing. The rest of Wings nation may be willing to give him a pass for the first couple years, but it wouldn't take many years of playoff emptiness before the fans would revolt against him. Well, I hope that Yzerman and his family are going to be ok and that this isn't a family emergency.

It's ok, guys, he shoots left. Everything's ok. Stop panicking. WHY ARE YOU ALL PANICKING? THE MAN SHOOTS LEFT. NOT RIGHT. LEFT. L-E-F-T.

If anything can bring me out of the woodwork, it’s news of My Lord and Savior Stevesus Yzermanchrist making his long overdue return to the Motherland to (not) strap on his skates and lead us to a threepeat, a super bowl win, and the end of the Flint water crisis. The part of my brain that’s not having a fever dream hopes that all is well with his family, has tempered expectations that he will ever return to the Wings franchise in any official capacity, and will wait and see how this pans out like a normal-functioning human being. But I’d be lying if I said my initial reaction to the original tweets wasn’t to aggressively hump the nearest inanimate (or not—sorry Lesley) object whilst scream-singing Don’t Stop Believing. Whatevs.

I'm guessing there is more to this, but I don't think there is any Wings' connection. That doesn't mean he doesn't end up back on the Wings' payroll at some point. 8 years did go by very quickly, reading that it surprised me that it's been that long.

John Shannon seems to agree: I buy it. As for how the Wings do or don't fit into all of this...I'm going to assume this isn't Wings-related. At the same time, though, doesn't this basically preclude him from taking a GM job anywhere except, perhaps, in Detroit? I've seen some people saying Seattle, but, like, if John Shannon is right, how is Seattle different from Tampa Bay? I guess he and the Mrs. could relocate together at some point, get a new primary residence somewhere else. But, I mean, yeah.

Wait and see. With the Drafts and trades Kenny had the last two seasons and with us finally in a rebuild I wouldn't mind if Kenny stays a bit longer. But No. 19 back with the Wings? That would be a dream come true.

I'd like to wish Kenny Holland the best of luck in his future endeavors. Fire his ass tomorrow and bring Yzerman back. I'm suprised, though, that Yzerman didn't see through the Tampa job until they won the Cup. He kind of left them with blue balls. On second thought, maybe the Lions are going to hire Yzerman after yesterday's game.

He has. But he won't have the luxury of starting with an elite center (Stamkos) and an elite Dman (Hedman) here in Detroit (unless next spring's draft is somehow legendary).

Maybe Illitch gave Yzerman a call after Holland offered Jokinen the PTO

Totally out of left field. Taking the year to transition and wait out KH being fired? One can hope.

The "rental thing" gets brought up because nobody wants us to trade for Karlsson without certainty. Usually, "rental" is a term that gets thrown out around the trade deadline because teams are looking for a quick-fix to put them over the top. "Rental" isn't usually term associated with trades made in the offseason because teams are planning not quick fixing or looking to move assets just for picks. In hockey, I'd love an example of a trade that surprised the player. I'm sure they exist but I can't think of a recent one that caused any major ripples in the landscape of how trades get done or how players or management acts concerning trades. As far as Karlsson goes... the GM can be as cool and keep the player as marketable as he possibly can. Doesn't mean good ole Eugene is going to do so. I still think the Wings should go after someone other than Karlsson.
