I agree. I don't think we can compete with them no matter how we arrange the lines. But I do think that you can arrange players in order to maximize your potential, even if the ceiling on that potential isn't as high as another team. Babcock's job is to make the Red Wing be as good as they can possibly be. If that's still not good enough to beat Tampa, so be it. But if we're not the best "us" that we can be, then he's doing something wrong. So far, I honestly don't even think he's done a bad job. We had some key injuries, and you had to know that Tampa was coming out strong. Now we're in the adjustment phase. We're very much in this series, but we need to find a way to get guys like Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan involved. I agree they've looked bad. But we know they aren't bad. So whatever the problem is, fix it. That's partially the coach's job. I'm eager to see what he does from here on out.

Not one person is saying Smith is a top pairing dman, but that is what you are arguing. Ericsson isn't a top pairing dman either, but he has been playing in that role all year long. Not one person said he should play with Kronwall because he is a top dman. He and Kronwall have played well together in the past. On more than one occasion.

Blashill's not a clone of Babcock. His teams can actually score at even strength.

Woah relax... Even tho Z is playing subpar his game is still 100% better than most of our forwards. Most of us are complaining about Z and comparing him to his own personal playoff standards, not the teams standards. Z is still doing better than most of the squad is. He's actually got the same amount of giveaways in this series as Datsyuk does.. Less giveaways in the season than most of our forwards including Datsyuk. Pav wearing the C, the refs would have a grand slam throwing us penalties when the dude theyre talking to cant effectively communicate in english to them. I understand you're unhappy with game 2 but dam gotta relax a bit there lol. This organization would never scratch their superstars. That's why its the Detroit Red Wings.

I respect you sir and your opinions, but in my belief, there are a couple of things that stand out here. No one is saying that Smith is a top pairing D man. In fact, Kronner probably is a number 2 on a good D. But, Smith and Kronwall have played well together in the past, and right now this is all about putting the best possible D pairings together. Thus, Q and DK have been our best pair all season, so in no way would you promote DK to play with Kronner at this stage. If you have a pair that plays well together, it'd be a good idea to keep them that way. That would give us 2 pairs that 'play well together', and then Zidlicky with Ericsson would give a solid 3rd pairing of 2 veterans, one defensively minded, and one offensively minded. I'd say that's a better balance. Will it happen? I doubt it. And accountability - its the entire reason Smith was scratched for the last 3 games. Batting that puck on the bench was stupid, so Babs scratched him as a result. Now that he's kept his head down and worked hard in practice, he's back in. I guarantee he'll be fired up and ready to play.
