I know it is a hair early, but I'd like to wish everyone on LGW a very Merry Christmas (or whatever other holiday tradition you observe)! A lot of the regulars know I am a music teacher. Hate is when posters were saying they'd rather lose with Mrazek than win with Jimmy. Hate is when people were dissing Jimmy when he had the better stats. I'm sure the previous poster was referring to those people, who attacked him without any ammo. Now they have ammo and you know they're going to run with it. I don't think anyone said you can't criticize Jimbo. He deserves some criticism, but it is one game while he's been solid otherwise (except shootouts, of course).

Hype is always an issue. Many fans always assume the next prospect is a HOF player. That they should be a HOF player from day 1. Most good to great players in every sport are built over time. Yes all have natural God given talent, but it takes time to mold that talent into something special. Time in the weightroom, skill training, maturity, emotional/mental toughness are things that are developed. Everyone does this at a different pace which far to often fans have no patience for.

Not yet but starting to. The whole Griffins team sucked the first 10 games are so-just like the RW's did. Coaching changes had much to do with that. The Griffins were however outshooting the other team most nights. Now the pucks are going in and they have won the last 14 in a row. During that period Mantha has been better than a point per game. But it is more than that. he is playing D, playing physical, and has added some play making to his game. The thought of Mantha-Larkin-Scevechnikov (spelling) as our top line in a couple of years should make everyone very happy. 3 guys all 6-2 or so that can skate, handle the puck, play D and score is what we need. Find a second line just like it and we are setup very nicely.

Hmmmm, I came in here for a reason. What was it? Oh, yeah. Anthony Mantha.

As of today, the Wings have 7 players on their roster between the ages of 23 and 25. A few younger and a few older. With the players around 24 years old, it got me thinking about what a great time of their life right now. 24 years old seems to be that point in your life where you aren't a kid anymore but just not quite to that adult age of 25 where everything seems to speed up and you are an adult officially for everything you do. I also got to thinking about my life at 24 years old and it was absolutely the best year of my life. Here are some of the things that were happening when I was 24: Kurt Cobain was found murdered (yes I believe that) Fedorov was Hart and Selke Winner Rangers won their last Cup Dallas won the Super Bowl Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction were the hottest movies Baseball cancelled the World Series Clinton was accused of Sexual Harassment (go figure) OJ Simpson....well we all know about that! Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding happened The Internet REALLY took off for the world! I had many "girlfriends" that year and was on fire if you know what I mean! Spent a long weekend in Myrtle Beach and hooked up with a girl named Stormi, and yes that was her real name. I took a road trip to Toronto with my best friend and spent a weekend on Younge Street that will NEVER be forgotten! I met my soon to be wife on December 7th that year, funny story, since I was such a hit with the ladies that year, I remember saying when I found out she was interested in me, that I'd f*** her, but I ain't gonna be her boyfriend....uh.....here we are 21 years later, still together, 3 boys, 2 houses and I love her more today than ever (until tomorrow that is.) And just like I mentioned above, since then, time has gone by SO fast that it still seems like yesterday! What was going on in your lives when you were 24?

Well said. Jurco at 22 and Mantha at 20. Both guys are gaining muscle and becoming better all around players. I'm not saying the Wings can wait til they are 30, but criticizing Mantha right now is absurd. He's doing fine. Real well, in fact.

Well said, Rich. Mantha in some ways is a victim of the hype machine. I'm pretty optimistic based on what those who actually watch the Griffs have been reporting.

I'd say I wouldn't trust it, but for $50 bucks it might be worth a shot, as long as they do returns. If you want a guaranteed thing, for sure go sportsk, I got my sister and my niece winter classic jerseys from them and theyes legit and the prices are good.

Bill, you read WAY too much into +/-... It's probably one of, if not the worst stats to go by, but yet it seems to be your go to in every argument for or against a player. Green has been much better defensively than any of us could have expected. He's actually been quite good, especially considering he is an "offensive" minded defenseman. Sure, his point totals could be a little higher, but he is leading the defense in points per game. He's also just coming off an injury, and has been playing better every game since coming back. He's been great at jumping up in the rush, timely pinches and very solid in his own zone. Green is not an issue with this team whatsoever...
