Ok the term is too long. No doubt about it. But that cap hit is actually pretty reasonable. Just a few days ago I read he wanted in the neighborhood of 6.5 mill. The guy brings a lot to the table. Good faceoff guy, can set guys up and score, and most importantly is also a good defensive forward.

Nielsen brings nothing to Detroit that they didn't have last season. I'd rather see a kid from GR play than sign him. He was a mediocre player most of his career before having a couple of decent seasons recently. I would bet that he would not score 15 goals here, and yes, I do see him as a Stephen Weiss 2.0. It would be a worthless signing. Lucic at least would have brought some grit and toughness, but it appears he's out. Staal would be pointless. I'd like Backes short term, but don't see that happening. I have no interest in Andrew Ladd, and I doubt he has any interest in us. So that leaves Eriksson and Okposo. I'd be happy with either, if the numbers were right. Would also like to add Matt Martin, but that is low probability.

Its amazing people are banging on Holland for signing him instead of other FA's. Its like you people believe that Holland gets his choice from of all the guys available. It takes two to get a contract done. Kenny can be willing to sign a guy but if he has no interest in coming to Detroit its not going to happen. Detroit is not a prime spot for FA's anymore. We need to realize this. In order to get guys here you are seeing Kenny have to give and extra year or pay more salary. This signing isnt bad at all.

I'd like the Neilson signing a lot more if it was 4 years for a little more money. It's 4 years from now that concerns me. The good thing about him is he is durable. So hoping no past injury issues means he can still be effective post 35.

Weak at forward, weak at D, inexperienced coaching and inconsistent goaltending. What exactly will this team be good at. They have nothing going for them right now

It's honestly hard for me to say, since he's been playing with one of the best centers in the league. I'd be nervous he'd get here and not be able to live up to anything the Wings would give him. $8M a year is way too much. I'd be comfortable if he was making around 5 or 6 but I'm sure someone will overpay for him.

I don't want to be negative for the sake of being negative, but I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be brutal for us.
