Its funny, WIngs fans are crying about us not getting Martin, Leafs fans are crying about getting Martin. A GM just can't win with everyone.

This year vs last year: a poll

Better. Pros: 1) 1 Year ago we didn't even have Datsyuk, he was recovering from a surgery and Neilsen is better then an injured and or not playing Datsyuk. 2) Vanek in 2016 is better then Richards in 2015. 3) Blashill has now had 1 year to coach in the NHL, logic would dictate that he will be better prepared in 2016 then 2015. 4) Every player that struggled/regressed with the new system should be better this year (Abby, Helm, Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Jurco, etc.) 5) Larkin, AA, Mantha should all keep getting better. 6) Mrazek should keep growing as a goaltender 7) Better Assistant Coaches Cons: 1) Zetterberg/Kronwall are definitely wild cards, will they come in healthier and put up better season, or will they continue their regression. Odds are regression. 2) E should just keep getting worse 3) Datsyuk is Gone. He did show up in some games and give us the Datsyuk of old, we will never get that again. The high scoring Boston game comes to mind.

Exactly why I changed my mind over the years. Fedorov, Datsyuk and Zetterberg are top in almost all scoring categories for the entire Red Wings franchise and have surpassed Ted Lindsay. Trying to keep the whole "well Feds and Dats left" emotions out of it. They are in the category of Red Wing legends, their numbers speak for themselves. Here's another cool stat. This is from before the last season started. Zetterberg is actually only one goal behind Shanny with 62 and Datsyuk ended his career with 51.

...but Osgood played behind the Red Wings, my gramma could win 400 playing for the Wings.

The morale of the story is that we need to get the Captain back somehow. He's just as skilled in his GM role as he was a captain. Hardly possible right now but the Ilitch family should start massaging him slowly, who knows in a year or two.

Deal was made with Tampa before he had a chance to meet with Detroit simple as that. It's not because Holland sux if he was going to leave Tampa we would have been able to make a pitch

I don't get what the point of discussion here is. Stamkos wasn't coming here regardless. He didn't even show interest to us or anyone else. The guy wants a Stanley cup not money. He could have easily made more in Toronto with endorsement deals. Best shot of a cup for him is Tampa. Truthfully I think we can all agree he made the smartest decision.

It doesn't hurt to have a guy as fast as Helm who can be slotted into either the top six or play on a checking line and be effective. He just can't be relied upon to be a scoring winger. So, I really don't think he's the problem with this team. He was one of our best players in 2008 and 2009 because he had a great team around him so he could play his role. Also, apparently he could have gotten more money elsewhere so it's not like the Wings actually "overpaid" to keep him.

That's gonna be interesting to watch, how big goalies like him and Dubnyk do. Even if the equipment is shortened, it would still be pretty big on those guys. Lundqvist and Holtby too.

Goose scored 17 last year. Taking from a different year seems like cherry picking stats to me. This wasn't an essential signing. I'm glad we reupped him, but I can see why some disagree. Without the Miller, Ott signing, I think people would look at it differently. I don't think the caphit is a big deal, though. We have Lark, AA, and others on their entry contracts and other young players on RFA deals for the next while - we would have to worry the cap for a bit. Also, who was there to throw money at? This is not true. 2010-2011: 32 pts 2012-2013: 26 pts in 68 games (got injured, traslates to 31 pts. over the full year) 2013-2014: 20 pts in 42 games (lockout season. His best season for pts per game. 39 pts over 82) 2014-2015: 33 pts Last year was a down year for his production - like it was for almost everyone on the team. from his record you can expect over 30 pts from him. I think saying he's worth less than 3 mill is unrealistic. He would have gotten more than 4 in free agency. That is worth - market dictates value.

Do what with players I favor? I'm not basing an opinion on my own bias, I'm basing an opinion on stats... I'm not saying I "think" Helm is one of the best bottom 6 forwards in the league, the stats are there to prove it. I'm sick and tired of reading the same people spewing the same s*** about how so and so sucks, with nothing other than their opinion to back it up... Helm sucks, Nyquist sucks, Smith sucks, etc, etc... Not a single person has said that Helm is a top 6 forward. I agree, he doesn't belong in the top 6, but that doesn't make him a bad player, or a terrible signing...

This year vs last year: a poll

Power(less)play WAS the issue. Having a better coach and better personnel (Vanek and Nielsen) should alliviate that issue. It may not be the best in the league, but it will be better.

Yup, re-signing Helm is the reason we have about 6 or 7 guys sitting / sent to Grand Rapids... Helm is not even close to being the problem with the log jam up front, but keep banging that drum Lefty...

Tootoo to TwoCity (CHI aka Second City)

Still pisses me off how he was treated here. Was a pointless signing by Holland (who for one rare time actually signed a tough playerto fill a need)because Babcock didn't want him, then he had to be bought out. Communication is a good thing sometimes. Idiots. I dunno if Tootoo will see much playing time in Chicago though, but at least he's got an NHL contract again.

I hate the pads goalies use now. I remember when they used to only cover up to just above the knee. Now they go almost to the waist on most goalies. I think Brodeur was the last to use the old style pads. I hope the new changes include cutting down the height.
