Sorry for the late answer (very busy time atm), nope I don't follow Baseball I tried but for whatever reason there are too many minutes were absolutely nothing happens. As far as I'm concerned Mr. I owns the NBA, NFL and MLB teams from Detroit too right? That's exactly my concern I wish he would focus on making the Red Wings great again, the MLB doesn't have a salary cap so it should be easier to make that team a strong contender. The problem for me is, that Holland doesn't seem to have a clear direction in mind. If you want to go for it, go for it fine...but if not don't just be a middle of the pack team be bad and build something that can sustain itself for a long period of time. My fear is that the Wings might become the Canucks of the east...I know a lot of you don't share that opinion but looking at the rosters it's pretty close...Wings have 1 (in words one) highend talent (Larkin), Canucks have Horvat...Wings have one bonafide top pairing guy (Dekeyser), Canucks have Tanev...other than that both teams are pretty thin prospectwise. I fully agree with your assessment, this would have been a great year to let AA and Mantha learn the ropes of the NHL game, As far as Winnipeg I have a feeling at least one team will meet their asking price, Cheveldayoff knows Trouba is worth it and sadly most do all the other GMs in the league. A young bonafide top 4 defenseman (with number 1 upside), good size and in his prime that's going to cost a lot. Anywaay I don't understand Minnesotta taking Pulkinnen, their team is overall already to small and other than his shot he doesn't add much to their lineup, maybe Fletsher sees something in him. -

Lefty, we don't have to worry about waiving Sproul or anyone when Kronwall comes back because he's on IR not LTIR. Although he's not currently on the 23-man roster, his full cap hit still counts against the cap. So once Kronwall comes back, we can just send Pasquale back down to Grand Rapids. My biggest concern is, once Kronwall does come back, Sproul could be a healthy scratch every night, despite being a better option than some others (Ericsson) in the lineup. Also once Kronwall comes back will we continue to go with 13 forwards and 8 defensemen? I guess that depends on other injuries... Regardless, we shouldn't have to waive anyone else until Jurco is ready to come off LTIR, which isn't for another couple months, and by that time someone else will likely be injured anyway... As far as the expansion draft goes, and despite the questionable calls Holland has made, I'd be shocked if he protects both Kronwall and Ericsson. He may even (should) leave them both unprotected... -

The move was made to get cap compliant before the 5:00pm EST deadline, nothing more. Even with Franzen, Jurco and Vitale on LTIR we were slightly over the cap. We sent Street down ($600K) and called up Pasquale ($575K). We now have a whopping $1,667 in cap space... -

It was to keep Helm from playing on the 4th line where he belongs, not to keep Miller and Ott. It was also because he's unlikely to be an NHL player for very long. -

I'm having an issue with tapatalk. The html codes are showing up, so a paragraph break looks like this and it's all run together. The other forums don't, so I don't think it's on my end. -

Entertaining bit of histrionics there. But in regards to the youth, I think there's something people are over-looking. We waived Pulk and Frk in order to keep the waiver-exempt AA. To me, that means that at least Holland thinks AA should be playing, which would almost certainly mean Ott or Miller sitting. Who knows if Blash feels the same way, but I'd assume so. Probably more of a positive than if we'd demoted AA and stuck Pulk in the pressbox. Also, you don't "build" with secondary players (or worse). We are building on the backs of Larkin, and Mrazek, and (for lack of a better option atm) Dekeyser, maybe AA. Hopefully in the near future we'll find at least a couple more to join that foundation. For secondary and depth players, it isn't that important where they come from. Old, young, drafted, UFA. Whatever. With Tatar, Nyquist, Abby, etc. we might even say our secondary players are already built as well as can be expected. The only skilled winger that's played significantly with Glendening was Jurco. And that was because they had no other place to put him. Also, Abby and Sheahan are probably better scorers right now than what Mantha could do. Maybe even Helm. I think very highly of AA (and Pulk for what it's worth now), but I'm not sure they'd be better scorers either. Yeah, it's interesting. Still too early to judge, and shouldn't be judged in hindsight anyway, but given how things have gone since that deal we might have been better off passing. -

Hey Matt, is there a way to go to the last unread post on mobile rather than going to the beginning of the thread? It used to just automatically take you there when you clicked on the thread title but now its back at square one. If anyone figures it out let me know! -

Right, and it takes two to make a deal. How do any of us even know if everyone turned Holland down on these guys. There was nothing special about these guys, every other team waives players and they get claimed all the time. This board overrates prospects like crazy. -

Sure. But Holland and the scouting department have to ask themselves if their criteria for picking players was right at that time. I can't answer that, but the decision they made were either due to the wrong criteria at that time or they indeed just didn't pan out as projected. But I wouldn't rule out the former especially if you look at a player like Pulkinnen. Small, highly skilled but can't hold on to the puck. These kind of players worked some time for the Wings but the game has changed over the years and the Wings might have ridden that horse a little bit too long. But whatever the reason, we can't help the fact that our prospects from that period of time just didn't archived the level we would need and our beloved winged franchise needs to figure out why. Just to make it clear: I'm not saying "Its all Kennys fault, tank it and fire him !!!!!!!1111111". Hindsight is always 20/20 and Holland has proven in the past that he is one of the best if not the best GM in the NHL. -

With the Las Vegas expansion draft coming, the value of the prospects who are not NHL ready in 1, max 2 years has probably fallen through the floor. This may be one of the reasons they were waiv ed and not traded -

1 pointI have it! This year's contest will be who can best incorporate LGW-specific memes into a GDT. There must be a minimum of 3 LGW-specific memes in each thread or if the thread is dedicated to one meme, it has to be really over the top. Photoshop ability is not required in any way for the creation of GDTs. I'm looking more at creativity. And the older the meme, the better, but it has to be either created on LGW or so well known here that it could have been.

Kronwall isn't expected to be out long. Would've saved him a few days at best. Regardless, it's obvious the team didn't see a role for Pulk here, so there's no reason to keep him. Sure, maybe we could have gotten a low pick, but that's hardly worth getting upset over. We have never had a problem getting good players for the middle and bottom of the roster. Even last year when our offense sucked our scoring depth was well above average. I am probably the biggest Pulk supporter here, but I don't think having him in the pressbox or on the 4th-line would have made any difference. It's been said ad nauseam, but our problems are at the top of the roster. It's extremely unlikely that Pulk (or Frk) would have helped that. AA might though, so we should probably be happy that he's on the team (at least until Jurco is healthy). -

I don't think anyone is actually over-valuing Frk or Pulkkinen here. They will both be middle 6, likely 3rd line players. None of this uproar is really about them, it's about keeping lesser quality players on the roster over them. Holland continues to make terrible signings at the expense of better, younger, cheaper players that the team has put time and money into to draft and develop. It's like Wings3:16 said, Holland continues to preach "building through the draft" but loses talent every single year. You can say all you want that these guys are not NHL quality players, or they're no big loss, but both of these players are better than anything we've lost in the past. When there were 3+ claims on one and at least that for the other today, I think it's clear both are quality talent. Look at all the players going through waivers this week, every single one has cleared so far except Frk yesterday, and Pulkkinen today... That is terrible asset management. But hey, we still have Miller and Ott on the team... What happens when Kronwall is healthy? Do we continue to go with 8 defensemen? I doub it. Meaning one of Sproul or Ouellet will be waived and definitely, 100% claimed. Unless of course there's a trade made before then... I'm not going to hold my breath...
