Anyone else see PK's return tonight? The crowd brought him to tears. I still can't believe the Canadians were stupid enough to make this trade.

    2017 NHLTrade Deadline Discussion

I agree we need to get rid of some players, but you know that not all players are going to be all stars right? If a guy like Nyquist can score 25-30 goals and get 60 points, that is solid production from a secondary scorer getting paid just over 4mil per year. The key is to mix high end talent with secondary scoring, the problem is that right now ALL we have is secondary scoring.

There is no debate, right now Crosby is the best player in the world. I'm sure at some point McDavid will pass him, but that time has not happened yet.

Since we're not making the playoffs, why not call him up and let him punch a few faces? God forbid Wings fans who attend games should have something to get excited about this season.

    Call ups have started

Right, I guess I should've said hopefully he plays well enough to stay in the lineup. I really don't see why they'd play miller over him.. but it wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.

I will never ever understand why Goose is being harped on so much, it's not his fault that some guys were expecting him to continue the insane rookie campaign, where he basically brought this team into the PO with his play. Around 60 points to me is very good for a second line winger. The Winger position is the easiest to fill but the Wings do have some pieces there it's the center and defense which screams for elite talent...if these 2 positions aren't on par with other teams the results can be seen with this years Wings edition and to some extent in Colorado, Dallas. With that being said Goose and Tatar are so similar still youngish and should net the Wings a solid return maybe package them up with Green and see if that could finally lead to GMs at least listening on trades of their top defenseman.

Yes, this should have been exactly the time to increase the role of the youngster and see if Larkin could be a potential 1 center, is AA capable of maybe becoming a 2c? and which young GR player can realistically be at the team next season. This is exactly what shortterm pain and longterm gain should be as of now, the streak is over hand the keys to the young guys and let's see what they got. Which can be very exciting just look at Edmonton, Buffalo, Winnipeg and Toronto tons of reasons for optimism even if they are losing right now. The goal has to be to close the gap to Arizona and Colorado somehow which honestly will be a huge task, we have to hope that both teams are starting to get on a bit of a run here.

The other issue I am having, is we are clearly not making the playoffs. Is this not the time to let either AA or Larkin play center? If these two are supposed to be our future 1C/2C or 2C/3C, dont they need to actually play C? This is the time to experience growing pains when losing doesnt matter, if anything it actually helps us.

I think both AA and Larkin have speed that makes them ideal for wing. They also lack superb defensive ability you want in a center. Who cares what they played in the past. Play them where they fit. Readress that in the future when we need centers.

    Pulkkinen claimed by Minnesota Wild

Still think they should have traded him in 2015 and gotten something for it. No hindsight either, I called it that he wasn't an NHL player well before that. Small one-dimensional NHL players rarely work and when you add the combination of the Red Wings mind-set they for sure will never work. We're too defensive (traditional defense) minded in our coaching styles. Sheahan could be the next Pulkinnen in a couple of years (put on waivers); although being a center I think he will still have some value. If it were me, I would have traded Sheahan this deadline because I predict he has a higher chance of not panning out for us (speaking purely in terms of probability). He just doesn't seem to fit into any particular role. A big guy that doesn't use his size, not particularly good as an offensive center, not much of a grinder; has a good wrist shot but not the hockey IQ to find the openings for it. We'll see in a couple of years if I'm right. Obviously I hope I'm wrong about him for the teams sake.

Agreed. Should move Helm to 4C and let Larkin be center of one of the top 3 lines.

Since I wasn't able to watch our cup victories my greatest memory of the streak Game 6 2011 against the Sharks. Wings went down 3:0 early in the series, so every game counted. The won the next two and then traveled to the Joe. A hard fought hockey ensued over the first two periods. Wings put pressure on the Sharks but no goal. The the Sharks lit the lamp with 9 minutes to go in the 3rd. And then this happened: I have never seen the Joe going this nuts before and ever since. Playoff hockey, I already miss you.

It sure was a dream to say I was @DetroitRedWings thank you to my teammates, trainers, staff and fans for the opportunity! 1/2 Forgot that Ott is big Red Wing fan and always wanted to play for us. Really too bad it didn't work out better.

I post here because my fiancé is a Leafs fan, dad is a Habs fan, brother-in-law is a Habs fan, all my close buddies are Leafs fans and one Canucks and Oilers fan... Not a single Wings fan... None of them give a s*** about the Red Wings. I love discussing Red Wings hockey, and this has been a great place to do that. Not because "I'm wasting my life posting", "have nothing to show in other areas of my life"... I'd bet anything that this lwing guy is a f***ing loser that lives in his parent's basement. No offense to anyone else that does, but at least you're not trying to impress the internet with all your success stories...

Enjoyed watching Vanek score some goals this year, one of the few worth watching, sad to see him go.

My favourite moments were probably the back to back matches with Shawn Michaels. Ohhhh wrong streak sorry Off the top of my head 1) 2008 Game 5 double OT. I was there in person, and at one point the Wings were 1min away from winning the cup (until stupid Pittsburgh scored). The energy for that moment prior to the goal was the craziest feeling I have ever experienced in person. 2) Yzerman scoring against St. Louis in OT in '96 3) 1995 Playoff run - it was the first time I had ever seen them have success in the playoffs, especially after the heartbreakers against SJ and TO the two previous seasons. 4) Franzen 4 (almost 5) goal performance against SJ

Well considering all those teams have star players in their prime, I'd say they are far more disappointing.
