Vanek signed for nearly the exact cap hit as Mantha, so obvious Mantha is done. Only you could be upset by this deal

If he stays on pace that deal is almost a bargain. Very happy with term and salary.

That's a good signing. He is the future Captain and should be a perennial 70+ point player starting this upcoming season. $6sh million is the sweet spot for a 60sh point player, so he already fits that criteria with room for growth.

Why didn't Athanasiou sign for 3 years $2M? It's still $6M, but allows for more cap flexibility. Athansiou's deal is not team friendly. Zetterberg has nothing to do with Larkin's contract, and Larkin's contract has nothing to do with Zetterberg. You're ranting about Holland lying about how many prospects will make the team, because Holland inked a contract with Larkin (a roster player) that we've been expecting for months? Baffling to say the least.

We've got some capable snipers on the team... Nyquist, Mantha, Zadina, Vanek, AA, FRk... We've got some capable playmakers on the team... Zberg, Larkin, Nielsen How many capable power-forwards do we have? Abdelkader? Ras is going to bring a much needed element to the forward group that we didn't have before. He's probably going to instantly become our best net front player. He'll be keeping defenders, and the goalie, busy down low, giving more time and space to our other skaters. If they don't put a BIG STRONG defender right on top of him down low, he's going to out muscle the small guys for positioning and light goalies up. In the corners we now suddenly have a strong/aggressive forward with long reach and size. It's gonna be great.

    Sure but Yzerman is better

Mantha is 6'5", 225lbs, Rasmussen is 6'6", 220lbs. Mantha is also over 4 years older. Rasmussen is still a teenager. I think he'll be fine. He'll likely add a little more mass to that frame (hopefully not too much)...

Look around the league. Look at other center putting up 60 points or less, making 7, 8, or even 10.5 million (Toews) for less than 60 points. Stastny made 7 million last year for 60 points. Getzlaf made 8.5. He's not robbing the bank here, he has the potential to go up to a ppg, and if he does we have him for a bargain.

So if my boss pays me $10 an hour for 2 hours instead of $20 an hour, that's OK cuz it's still 20 bucks?

Cap hit is great. I would have liked longer term, but we knew he was going to get in the 5-6 year range. Great deal.

Rasmussen's skating has been knocked largely for a lack of "explosiveness" in his first couple of steps. He's worked on it and he's openly acknowledged that it's something he's going to keep working to improve. I'd put it this way: if you're fine with Mantha's skating, you'll probably be fine with Rasmussen's skating, and if you think Mantha is a little slow-footed, you'll probably feel Rasmussen is a little slow-footed.

During Yzerman's prime (the 7 years from 87-94) the only players to outscore him were Gretzky and Lemieux. Fedorov's peak scoring was from 90-96, when he was 10th. Yzerman was 7th over the same span. 4-year peak from 92-96 he was 6th, and over 3 years he got to 4th. Feds peak 3-year period he averaged 1.37 p/g, slightly better than Yzerman's peak 7-years (1.36, adjusted for league scoring average), but below his 3-year peak (1.44). Scoring-wise Yzerman wins hands down, if only for longevity. In terms of complete game, Fedorov might have an edge, but it's hard to say since it's so difficult to quantify all the other stuff, particularly intangibles like "leadership".

    Top 50 NHL Prospects

Meh. The "generational" discussion is a semantics tar pit. Is Dahlin a "generational" talent? Maybe, maybe not. Does he appear to have the makings of a "generational" talent? Maybe, maybe not. Is he the most promising and exciting teenage defenseman in ages? Yes. Is he the most promising and exciting teenage defenseman ever? You could make that argument. (Lidstrom himself has said as much.) McDavid is the safest 1st overall pick you can make. If Dahlin is a less safe 1st overall pick, it's only because he's a defenseman. 2015 McDavid is as close as you get to "guaranteed franchise centerman" and 2018 Dahlin is as close as you get to "guaranteed franchise defenseman." Dahlin is an incredible hockey player. The HYPE! surrounding him is warranted. You couldn't ask for a better defense prospect.

Zadina, Veleno, Berggren, McIsaac... It's not a big stretch to say we basically picked four times in the first round. That's what an unusually deep draft class can do for you, I guess. And the 2019 class is looking just as deep. HYPE!

Hey @LeftWinger, remember that time you made a joke referencing players returning to 2008 form?... I wasn't a fan of the Rasmussen pick either, but to call it a bust or screw up this early is a bit premature, don't ya think? Regardless, we should have taken Vilardi, not Tippett. I think Vilardi would have been the safest pick, as well as the highest ceiling. Both Rasmussen and Tippett could boom or bust. I'll agree that Tippett may have the higher chance of booming, but the potential he busts is still there.

Did I say I was upset with It? It's just not team friendly. But it is Z's salary, which, in order to have Rasmussen up, will have to come from LTIR. Franzen's is all but used up with this contract. If the plan is to keep Rasmussen in the teenage league and Zadina in the AHL, then Ken Holland blew smoke up all your asses because instead of having 2-5 new kids in the lineup, there will be ZERO. Not even on D. So what page of the Holland Guide to GM'ing is this on? Lying to all the fans and signing players we don't need. UNLESS Z is done, then there will be room for 2 new kids. But if Z plays, then no new kids. We have ZERO cap space, 13 Fwds, 6 D. No room for any new kids. Team friendly is 6 years $5M, it's still $30M, but allows for more cap flexibility. Trust me, I am glad he is signed, and sure, it's a good term, but it would be better if it was the same money, less cap hit.
