It's sounds like it IS about feelings the way you put it. "If I was Mantha I'd want a trade". Blah blah blah boo freakin hoo. It sounds like you wanted a Jonathan Drouin 2.0 soap opera with the Red Wings. And what exactly happened with Drouin's situation? Jonathan Drouin looked like an idiot spoiled brat. Mantha clearly handled the situation well and didn't turn the it into a matinee of General Hospital like you were hoping for. If anything this entire situation makes Mantha look more professional. He handled it well, didn't overreact, and he came back to GR after Devallano's comments and had an excellent season. He even got called up and got to play with Datsyuk and scored some goals and made Grandad proud. And with a second bout of "criticism" from Holland, Mantha again, handled the situation without overreacting like a spoiled child and my guess is he will deter his critics and hopefully win a spot in the line-up 2016/17. And if he does make the line up. If he does become a top 6 winger in a few years. If he does become the face of one of the most well respected organizations in hockey history.. It will be quite funny to come back and read your overreacting post. And I'm sorry, the last time I checked, in the real world when people overreact against management and authority, whether it's in the business world, the medical field or in the domain of law, they tend to get their ass lit on fire. So instead of being closed-minded and thinking of it through the eye of a Holland critic, perhaps you could look at it through Mantha's perspective? He's a first round pick that has a reputation to maintain and he chose the path of professionalism and poise. Good for him.

I hate that Holland comment with all of my heart and soul. It's stupid on so many levels. It encapsulates everything that's wrong with the state of the Wings. Just for starters (I'm only going to launch one complaint here, but please know that I could write an entire essay about this quote), "Why does anyone think he is going to be the answer in Detroit?" is a straw man argument, one Holland has trotted out before when attempting -- and failing -- to convincingly rationalize a decision to hold a younger player back, i.e. keep him in the minors when it's obvious to anyone and everyone not named Ken Holland that the player in question should be playing in the National Hockey League. People don't want Anthony Mantha in the lineup because they feel he's The Answer. They don't feel he's The Answer. What people feel is that Anthony Mantha brings certain elements to the lineup that are sorely lacking and sorely needed, e.g. size, high-level vision/thinking, scoring prowess, playmaking ability. It's like a Wings fan saying, "Thomas Vanek is 32, slow-footed, poor defensively, and he doesn't drive possession. He was at the center of a gambling scandal. He was bought out by the Wild (i.e. they are literally paying him to not play for them). Why does anyone think he is going to be the answer in Detroit?" Holland didn't sign Thomas Vanek because he feels he's The Answer. Holland doesn't think he's The Answer. What Holland feels is that Thomas Vanek brings certain elements to the lineup that are sorely lacking and sorely needed, e.g. size...high-level vision/thinking...scoring prowess...playmaking ability....

It feels like groundhog day... here we are with a glut of overpaid/underachieving forwards signed, anyone under 25 not named Dylan Larkin have been "cock-blocked" from seeing any meaningful NHL ice time. And our defence is terrible and another year older. This team needs a new management philosophy ASAP.

The irony of Internet Unknown posting that amuses me.

    Punctuation, how does it work?

I'd seriously consider trading Mantha now, whereas I wouldn't have a few days ago. It's clear management isn't very high on him and he's not going to get a very good shot to make the team unless he pulls a Larkin. His development because of this is basically finished in our system. He has some value, so bring us a defender, Kenny.

McCarty 96-97: 49pts in 68 games Can't do anything else????!!! Also you saying he's a net negative: Do you mean +/-? Because he's a +61 in his career.

    Datsyukian-Deke

    Who should get A?

    It's clearly Cleary....

Yawn. Overly sensitive way of thinking. Mantha is a big boy and I'm glad he hasn't requested for a trade and gotten a boo boo over this. He seems to be taking it better than you have lol. Haven't heard him complain about much and saw his family enjoy his first goal in the NHL as well.

People need to remember, we need to put 3 guys in the press box each night to essentially be backups to out lineup. With no more Andersson and some trades likely coming this opens up some spots. This is where I believe Ott and Miller will be on opening night baring any injuries.

I reeeeeally don't like Fowler, if we're gonna get someone and likely overpay it had better be someone other than him.

Holland likes to panic and jump the gun on signing people. I like Miller, but it can't be that hard to find a UFA 4th line penalty killer if we somehow missed out on him. Goalies are hard to move. We're stuck with Howard, maybe for the duration of the contract. I would hope we could find a buyer over the next few years, but yeah, we're probably stuck with him. Ericsson, even with all his contract stipulations, would be easier to move. I'm with you on Kronwall, though. He's still a serviceable top four guy, he just never really stepped into the Number 1 spot like we all hoped he would. Unfortunately, we have about a thousand middle pairing defensemen, so...

In fact people would have been furious if he didn't sign neilson. He got neilson at a shorter term and dollar amount than his team (nyi) that he was with for his full 10 year career offered and people are still mad. Had he signed lucic, backes, okposo, or any of the big names from today to any of the contracts they signed for people would still be mad. Kenny can never do anything right around here. I feel like he actually did a good job today. Ya the neilson contract length is long, but it's only really going to hurt us the last 2 years most likely. The vanek signing was very good too imo. Helm contract length and dollar was high, but shouldn't really hinder us going forward too much.

It's the way it is now. Length decides so much on the players side of it. It's long term or no term with most.Sent from my STV100-3 using Tapatalk

$2.6 million is a steal even if he just puts up the same 18 goals 40 points he put up last year

Cannot stand some of the negative nancy downers here. I can see complaining about Kenny when he screws up (like most of you I'd also much rather have Stevie Y as a GM) but some ppl here will find anything to complain about, even when it's a solid deal. Kenny not getting Stammer isn't his fault whatsoever. He was never even on the open market. Some ppl need to GTFO with all the negative sky is falling no matter what mentality...smh.

You can't win. Most of these posters are probably complainers in everyday life as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess I'm the only one who's glad he's staying. Price is a bit too high but realistically he was always going to get paid somewhere in the 3-4M range, so I don't think it's even so much of an overpayment, certainly not enough to get bent out of shape about and think it's the end of the world, especially cuz the Wings have 100 billion dollars to work with atm now that Stamkos isn't in the plans.

Hmm Nielsen leads the league in the shootout apparently (42 in 82 attempts).. I did not know that. Certainly not a "must sign" type factor but that would be a nice bonus (especially losing Datsyuk) given how we struggle in shootouts.

Why do I feel like Kenny is in a lose lose today once Stamkos re-signed He signs some people at Market Value and will get bashed... He doesn't sign anyone, which people will say why didn't he improve our team and gets ripped as well ha Life of a GM lol

Makarov is the best winger of the 1980's. It's not a weak year, unless you started watching hockey in the 90's and never bothered learning about the game's history. Lindros and Vachon, along with Makarov were the best players not in the HHOF. Long time coming for two of them.
