Excellent post. Parity is as strong as I can ever remember. Just look at the first round, everyone was pretty ready crown either LA, Chicago, Anaheim, or Washington the champs before the playoffs started and after 1 round 3 of those 4 teams are gone. It's just a different NHL now a days. Also, why is this thread even here? A link to a random/ridicoulas article about how Holland is sabotaging this team can go into one of the other million Holland sucks threads on this board.

An impatient fan base that expects a Cup every year is what causes teams like Anaheim to fire respected coaches after four straight division titles. He's absolutely dead on about this: If you expect Detroit to compete for the Cup every single year, then in today's league of parity, you are out of your mind. Making the playoffs every year is as about as reasonable an expectation as you can get. After that, everything is up for grabs. Look at this year: Maybe you'll be the Tampa Bay Lightning and get an easy first round matchup, or maybe you'll be the Chicago Blackhawks and have to face the St. Louis Blues. Would anyone here be disappointed at a first round exit with the quality of play that we saw in the Chicago/St. Louis series? I seriously hope not. Sometimes it just doesn't fall your way. I don't disagree with Holland on this.

I think the bigger issue is the piss poor attitude our guys are displaying. I don't remember players coming out in the media like this complaining. Be a professional and discuss these things with the coach and GM rather than going through the media. Grow up. This isn't how the red wings do things.

I stand corrected, but still do not care. Like I've previously said. Nobody will care about what the building is called come game time. There are also much worst companies that could have bought the naming rights.

SO MUCH THIS. I cannot begin to tell you how turned off I have been by the aggressive negativity. And that's the difference. Constructive criticism? Well thought out critiques of the team? I'm all for it. But the constant BARRAGE of violent negativity and "f*** you if you don't think this is the worst s*** EVAAARRR" attitude to those of us who either are trying to find a silver lining or just DON'T GET THAT FRICKING WORKED UP is *ridiculous*. Some of the people that post here seem to be really miserable, unhappy people. That's not the rest of our faults. So you feel censored? Too bad. Because I feel ******* *assaulted* when I read some of these bulls*** rampages that get away with not only hostility toward the team but frequently sexism, racism, and homophobia to boot. So you see, it's all about balance. The mods aren't here just to please you. They're here to try and balance what posters like myself want as well.

Good read. I now have some new Holland quotes to add to my list. My favorite is still "I don't know why they're not coming here"

Its amazing to see how a team can score on Bishop when they actually dont aim for the crest dead center of his jersey. To bad the Wings never learned that.

They were going to sell the rights to some company. To think otherwise is really naive. So all this "it should have been named after a Red Wing" is pointless. Where in the NHL has that happened in today's day and age??

    Mantha

Positive words from Holland on Mantha and Bertuzzi: "Both bring important dimensions," Holland said. "Both are young players that we need to be important in Detroit one day." http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2016/04/27/detroit-red-wings-anthony-mantha/83593078/ plus video of Mantha send 2 goals through the mesh of the net.

When it's 4+ pages of team bashing and complete nonsense, absolutely. Directly from the forum rules. · DO post constructively. If you can't add anything meaningful to a discussion, don't bother. While we have the small handful of posters here that seem to have issues with how things are handled, I guarantee you we have a much bigger concern from posters that think we are entirely too lenient and have expressed to us in PM about leaving this site because of how toxic the GDT becomes, and how X poster is entirely too argumentative and aggressive in their posting style and no longer want to be involved with this community due to these people. Its a two way road, but the majority that send us messages is out of concern about things not being moderated enough and the things we often let slide. If you could only see my PM box and weigh out the positives against the negatives, it may give you a better perspective. A lot of great members, boosters, and moderators have been chased away from this site from a few of the same very people that are critical of the moderation staff that generally find their way out eventually anyway. The minority of the community feels like the moderators are pushing people away, but the majority feels it is the aggressive and confrontational posters. This is a fact that any member of the staff here would easily back me up on, including Matt. So I support what the staff does, if threatening to close a GDT after receiving a handful of reports about how out of hand it is getting in the thread to level things out and return it back to game discussion instead of post after post of "This team sucks" "F*** this team" "What a joke" is a big concern of yours, in which the GDT was never, nor has it ever been locked in the middle of any game ever on this site, feel free to send a PM to Matt and we can look into overturning that comment in the now entirely irrelevant GDT. I've said this time and time again, no forum in the history of the internet's existence has ever had a moderation staff that 100% of the community is content with. It's impossible to please everyone in any scenario like this. It really comes down to how much of it really bothers you and if it's that important to you to be a determining factor if you stay here as a part of the community or take your leave.

    Mantha

I'm not really concerned with Mantha's defensive lapses. I'd rather they have him focused on scoring goals and making things happen in the offensive zone. There are enough 2 way forwards on this team

The name Talbot will always haunt my dreams after 09. That being said, that 09 team is miles better than this one now. I miss those days. I really miss that 97-98 team. A whole lotta talent mixed with a whole lotta bruising coupled with a chip on their shoulders. That team had a lot to prove and they did it back to back. I guess you can say those losses stung but I remember the Devils Cup sweep and our amazing year in 96 only to be stopped by the scummy Avalanche and those really pissed me off. That 02 team was stacked though. Can't win them all I used to tell myself. Good times. Now it hurts that we barely squeak in and are out in a round every year.

"One thing that we want to do, we want to help our guys get better," Blashill said. "That doesn't always mean production wise you're going to improve from year to year. Sometimes it has to do with minutes, and there are only so many minutes to go around, and that can affect a lot of things including production. But part of what we want to do here is make sure we help our guys get better and make sure that we get better as a team." I'm hoping this is Blashill's way of saying that he will be relying more heavily on the kids next season to "help them get better". I'd rather lose some games with the kids at the beginning of the season than lean heavily on the vets again. The only way they'll learn is to learn from their mistakes in game situations. I'm hoping Zetterberg is 2nd line winger or 3rd line center, and Kronwall is 3rd pair defenseman, both getting around 12-15 minutes a game...

His 1 point and -3 rating was the 2nd worst amongst forwards. He hit a dude a bunch of times while on ice but that's about all he did this post season.

If anything we could use a couple more Abdelkader in the lineup. Having a guy like him on each of the top 3 lines opens up space for guys like Goose and Tats. Why do you think they've both had down years? They've been stuck playing together too much, giving the team an easy line to play against. That's why the line centered by Sheahan was much better with Jurco on it in the past.

    Mantha

I don't understand where people are getting that Mantha is in any way being overrated by anyone?... The argument that any of us that are pro-Mantha have had is that he should have been in the lineup during the playoffs. Not because with him we would have without a doubt beaten Tampa, but because he would have given us a better opportunity than Andersson did. No one has said he's an All-Star or this phenomenal player, we're just saying that he's a good young player, and he makes our team better. It could also be argued that being in the NHL for the Red Wings playoff run (which may or may not be still alive) could have been better for his development than being in the AHL for the Griffins playoff run...
