I must be the only person alive who is fine with Howard being protected? I fully get the arguments around asset (mis)management, but I think there is a whole human element not being mentioned or discussed. Howard came off a pretty bad season, worked his arse off, came back a much better player, held teams to zero goals over 60-65mins, while his team failed to score in front of him. And no complaints the following game he'd come back with more of the same. If I was his team-mate I'd have a truckload of respect for the man and his attitude, likewise if I was his boss. To me he has earned the right to be protected, especially looking through a lens of respect and integrity. Meanwhile the young kid with all the potential in the world, lets in 3-4 goals a game, and calls out his team-mates for not scoring enough? Who would you rather had your back when it came to the crunch? As stated, I agree not a good move in terms of asset management. But do we all forget that these are people & not just assets? That when they earn the respect of the peers, and management, they deserve it in return? I hope we keep Mrazek, but if we don't it ain't the end of the world. I'll still be cheering my damned team on.

The good thing about possibly having a Howard/coreau tandem is we'll likely land 1st overall and holland will get fired

I'm inclined to believe this report simply because I see Mrazek making the same mistakes over and over again. I was blaming the coaching for this, but if he is cocky and overconfident, I could see him ignoring the coaches. I wonder if this was the locker room problem that derailed the 2015-2016 season. We were almost in first in our division at the all star break and then collapsed horribly, even with a very favorable schedule down the stretch and backed into the playoffs. Maybe the vets wanted the coaches to do something about him and didn't and that turned them off or maybe it divided the locker room in some other way. This is all speculation on my part, but there was such a sharp decline in play for the Wings in the second half compared to the first half that I figured something had to be wrong in the locker room. Maybe leaving him unprotected is a way to try and knock him down a peg and knowing that there's a high probability he won't get picked, its low risk. Attitude aside, his numbers were not that great last year and the second half of the year before were not great either. With Fleury out there, I don't see why they'd pick Mrazek.

Thanks for clarifying. I see where you're coming from now. I wouldn't go so far as to say Holland has been "TERRIBLE with player selection over the last 10 years" and is "WASTING our draft picks." Certainly there's no reason to believe we'll more than likely have "ZERO NHL players come out of this draft" and that "There's a great chance our 9th pick turns out to be crap, based on Holland's recent track record." Our amateur scouting and our drafting and our prospect development has, arguably, been problematic for the better part of a decade now. It's a discussion that more people should be having, IMO. But let's not overstate the problem.

If Mrazek wanted to be the #1, maybe he shouldn't have played like a tire fire when he was given the job. How would you feel if you had a coworker who was a complete jackass, didn't work hard, blamed everyone else for his mistakes, and your boss promoted him? For me it all depends on who his replacement is. I would prefer Holland over ALOT of guys, but if the right person came along, I wouldn't be against it.

To be honest, I think Holland was one of the best GM's in the game for years, but I think over the past few years he has ran into problems for many reasons. I think the game evolved and he fell behind, I think he suffered from not having high picks and not having the luxury of finding gems late in the draft anymore, I think he has had some bad luck, I think he has signed too many vets to long term contracts, and I think that the cyclical nature of this game has caught up with him. The issue I have with some, is because of their overall feelings of Holland they nitpick every little thing he does. Hopefully he turns this around, only time will tell.

Well I'll have to respectfully disagree with Mr. Cory Wilkins, whoever that is lol You take Fleury because Flower is the best available, no brainer. After that you have Grubauer, Raanta, and Korpisalo, possibly Pickard. I would take 2 of those, possibly all 4 depending on ability to flip them. You let one grow under Fleury until flowers contract runs out, or its time to trade him because the underling has become the master. Mrazek is not in this position. Hes already 25, coming off a horrific season, already makes more money than hes worth, and reportedly has off ice issues with managment and coaching staff. Only way you take Petr is to flip him, and apparently Ken Holland cant flip him, so why take him?

I think Chyaka told him he wouldnt be offered a contract, but is allowing his captain to go gracefully as if it was under his own accord. Terry Boss said something else along the lines of "Arizona is getting rid of everything old" clearly Chyaka wants to accelerate the culture change. Also the team is broke again lol. When you mention Shane Doan my first two thoughts are I really respect the heck out of that guy, and what a complete idiot that guy is. I have not heard this one either. I tend to believe Holland when he says he wont be making special deals to keep players. And I doubt this would have been the case had we not just come off an awful season. Had this been a playoff year, he wouldve donated his left nut to keep Cleary and the boys together. I think we're witnessing a fresh attitude from Holland. The message he's sending is, you cant even make the playoffs, why should I sacrafice future assests to protect any of you? I dont care if youre a good ol boy with an A on your chest, or a 25 year old goalie, if you cant play you get exposed. This is the first step to rebuilding. Change in the front offices philosophy. Hes more concerned about his 3rd draft choice in 2019 at this point, then most of the losers we already have.

Nobody That's the thing, the dust settles on Wednesday. Nobody truly knows what is happening behind the scenes. If on Wednesday Mrazek is chosen, people should feel free to go nuts, until then lets see what happens. Do you have a source on the Kronwall rumor? I haven't heard that reported anywhere.

Mrazek struggled all season. There is no way Vegas takes him with some of the other goalies available. So I don't think it matters who we protected at goalie. Both were gonna be on the roster come training camp. Glad they kept green. He should net us a first at the deadline. Please take Helm Vegas!
